Launched in 2010, the present facelift is going to be the second makeover which Volkswagen has given to the Vento within the span of a few months. Though the previous update did not consist of significant changes to the original model, this time around things look on the brighter side.
Though the body structure remains the same, certain visual modifications have been done to enhance the outside profile of the car. The front grill is wider and now gets 3 chrome slats which are Passat inspired. The front bumper gets a chrome strip running across its bottom length with rectangular fog lamps housed on either sides of it. The increased chrome treatment makes the front of the car look elegant than before and a little towards the premium side. The side profile of the car is left completely untouched and the Vento projects the similar compact bot rigid outer appearance. At the back we get redesigned taillights which feature an LED like form. The bumper gets a single chrome strip running across its length, matching with the one at the front with the addition of reflectors at the extreme ends.
On the inside there will be no compromise on the superior build quality that the German manufacturer never fails to provide. Vento facelift will get beige and brown duel tone interiors with the colour scheme being on the lighter side than the previous facelift. The steering mounted controls are now made up of shiny black plastic and look quite decent. The multimedia system and the controls for the air con on the centre console are now surrounded by silver inserts. The new Vento gets additional equipment like a dead pedal, cooled glove box, auto folding mirrors and cruise control on the top spec variants.
Engine and performance
The Volkswagen Vento is available with an engine option of 2 petrol and 1 diesel engine. The petrol powered Vento gets either a 1.2 litre turbocharged unit which produces 105bhp along with a peak torque of 175Nm or a 1.6 litre naturally aspirated unit which also produces the same 105bhp but a little less 153Nm of peak torque. The 1.2 litre engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox on the other hand the 1.6 litre unit gets a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel powered Vento gets a 1.5 litre turbocharged mil which is capable of producing 105bhp and a peak torque of 250Nm. The engine is paired to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG automatic one.
As before this new facelift Vento will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
