Tata Motors was apparently the first Indian carmaker to launch a sub-4 meter compact sedan with the Indigo eCS. After the Indigo series the legacy was further continued by Tata premium compact sedan the Zest and next in line is the Kite Compact Sedan. Based on the Kite hatchback the compact sedan version is likely to take the place of Tata Indigo eCS private passenger car segment.
In terms of exterior looks and design, the Kite compact sedan comes with a front fascia that is much identical to its hatchback sibling. While there are similarities to the side profile as well but as you go towards to the rear you’ll notice now variations like a more curvaceous roofline that gives the impression of the rear windshield being connected to the boot-lid similar to the ones you find in a Skoda. The rear end will also come with some redesigned tail-lamps and much beefy bumper than the one you see in the Kite hatchback.
While there is much revealed about the interiors of the Kite siblings, but judging by Tata new HorizonNext strategy, you can expect to see many new features and use of high quality material in the interior. Tata is likely to add its new signature three-spoke steering wheel with dashboard and instrument panel will be revised with upgraded upholstery. The range-topping variant is likely to receive some features from the Zest compact sedan.
Under the hood the Kite siblings are expected to be powered by a new 1.2-litre petrol engine and an all new 1.05-litre diesel motor. Both the engines are likely to be three-cylinder units and are expected to come with both manual and automatic transmission.
Launch Date, Price & Competition:
While there are speculations the Tata is likely to launch the Kite siblings together there is quite a possibility that the compact sedan will reach the showroom towards early next year. Upon its launch the car will aid the Zest in competing with rivals like Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Hyundai Xcent. The new sedan will be placed below the Zest so you can expect it to be priced in the range of INR 4 – 5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
