Skoda India has finally launched the all new next generation Skoda Superb 2016 in the Indian market at a price of INR 22.65 Lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Based on Volkswagen group’s MQB platform, it is claimed to be 75kgs lighter in weight compared to the previous generation model, thus making it more fuel efficient. The newly launched sedan is premium not only in terms of space but also in class as it offers luxurious interiors. Revealed for the first time at Prague in February, Skoda Superb is the second product that features Skoda’s new corporate design language.
The next generation 2016 Skoda Superb sedan gets an appealing exterior appearance. On the front, it comes with signature wide butterfly grille flanked by sharp angular 3D headlamps with integrated DRLs, wide air dam and LED fog lamps. It also gets aggressive bonnet featuring sharp and edgy lines along with a sporty front bumper that provides a sedan with a sporty character. On the sides, it gets a sloping roofline that gives it a coupe-like profile and the sharp wheel-arches add an additional spice of aggressive looks to the exterior profile. The flared wheel arches comes fitted to 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear profile looks elegant and yet quite similar to most German sedans which features body coloured bumpers and extended C shaped tail lamps. Talking about the dimensions, it measures 4861mm in length, 1864mm in width, 1468mm in height and comes with increased wheelbase by 80 mm.
Superb sedan being Skoda’s flagship product, it bags ample of premium features for the cabin. Moreover, the cabin looks more spacious compared to previous model because of the enhanced wheelbase as well as length. On feature front, the sedan bags a CANTON audio system, 6.5-inch SmartLink infotainment system, electrically-adjustable seats, parking sensors, Appe CarPlay, lumbar support, Panaromic Sunroof and a three-zone climate control. It also gets mood lighting which comes in three shades – Passion Red, Natural Green and White. With amplified legroom, shoulder space as well as headroom makes this car more luxurious than the outgoing mode. It also comes with largest boot capacity of 625litre without folding of rear seats.
Engine, Performance and Fuel Efficiency
Under the hood, the new 2016 Skoda Superb is powered by same engine options – 1.8-litre TSI petrol and 2.0 TDI diesel engines. Both the engines are refined to provide better performance and enhanced fuel efficiency. The petrol engine produces 177.5bhp of power at 4000 rpm along with 320Nm of peak torque at 1450 rpm while the diesel engine is good for 174.5bhp of power and 350Nm of peak torque. The Transmission duties are carried out by 6-speed manual transmission unit and 7-speed Direct Shift Gear (DSG) automatic gearbox. As far as the fuel efficiency is concerned, the petrol Manual Transmission variant returns mileage of 14.12kmpl, while petrol automatic version offers 14.67kmpl and diesel automatic variant gives 18.19kmpl.
Price and Competition
Talking about the price, the new Skoda Superb sedan is priced in the range of INR 22.65 lakh – 26.89 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai. In terms of competition, it heats up the segment with Volkswagen Passat, new Honda Accord, and Audi A3.
