With the increasing dominance of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in the SUV segment, Czech automaker – Skoda is gearing up to dethrone other SUV players in the domestic market by bring-in its Vision S Concept based SUV. The 2017 Skoda Kodiaq will be built on well tested MQB platform that also underpins the new VW Tiguan.

Skoda Kodiaq will be based on company’s MQB platform and carries a futuristic design that complements its aggressive and bold appearance. On the exterior front, the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq bags signatory style thirteen vertical slat grille, sleek LED headlights with LED DRLs, body coloured bumpers and quadrilateral shaped fog lights. On the sides, the car flaunts its bold character lines that highlight the distinctive shoulder blade and sloppy roofline as well as alloy wheels accentuates the overall profile. The rear end of the SUV gets noticeable inclusions such as black glossy accents, tail gate mounted spoilers and dual exhaust system. As far as the dimensions are concerned, the 2017 Skoda Kodiaq SUV will measure 4700mm in length, 1910mm in width, 1680mm in height along with wheelbase of 2790mm and ground clearance of 168mm.

On the inside, the 2017 Skoda Kodiaq is expected to bag feature rich cabin with dashboard being the main highlight that grabs the entire attention. The dashboard elevates the entire cabin room which is further emphasized by hi-tech features and premium upholstery. Feature wise, the SUV is expected to sport features such as digital instrument cluster, infotainment system, a digital centre stack, touchscreen controls, 6 airbags, dual zone automatic climate control, Parking Distance Control with Braking, Multi-function Steering Wheel and such other features. The metallic trims of the SUV are complemented by the premium leather upholstery that enhances the complete cabin space. This seven seater SUV will offer best in class boot space with all three foldable row seats as an option.
2017 Skoda Kodiaq Engine Specifications and Performance
The upcoming 2017 Kodiaq is expected to be a plug-in hybrid with a 1.4-litre petrol unit that might be paired to a two electric motors. The engine is capable of generating 154bhp of max power along with peak torque of 250Nm. The power outputs of both the electric motors are expected to be about 54bhp and 114bhp respectively. The combined power figures from the engine and motors will be 222bhp. The company will be employing its popular 6-speed DSG gearbox for the transmission duties. However, for the domestic market, the SUV is expected to come with conventional power train options which might be borrowed from Superb. The Petrol engine is anticipated to be a 1.8-litre unit that is capable of churning 180 PS of maximum power figures where as the 2.0-litre oil burner is expected to develop 150 PS of power. The transmission functionalities will be carried out by 7-speed DSG and 6-speed DSG units.
2017 Skoda Kodiaq Launch Date, Price and Competition
Likely to arrive in the Indian market during the end of 2017, Skoda Kodiaq will compete against the likes of Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Fortuner. As far as the price is concerned, Skoda will be looking to tag the SUV competitively in the range of INR 28 lakh – INR 35 lakh (ex-showroom).
