Renault, French automaker dominated the highly competitive entry level hatchback segment with its small car – Kwid. Priced at INR 2.62 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), Kwid emerged as a segment leader outperforming its close rival Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. Buoyed by the excellent response, the company launched the powerful derivative of Kwid powered by a 1.0-litre SCe in the Indian market with a price tag of INR 3.82 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The powerful variant was showcased at 13th edition of Auto Expo and the bookings for the Kwid 1.0-litre have already started with deliveries to commence from next month. The all new Renault KWID features a stylish SUV-style exterior design and some class-leading features that derive KWID as one of best entry level cars in the country. Manufactured at Renault-Nissan facility in Chennai with 98 percent localization, deriving the Kwid more economical in terms of pricing and promoting its “MAKE IN INDIA” initiative.
Renault Kwid – Exteriors
The Kwid hatchback from the house of French automaker is derived to raise the eyebrows with its all-around muscular appearance. At the front, the car sports SUV-inspired stance that offers an aggressive attribute with elegantly designed headlamps and bumper. Following the footsteps of every other small car based crossover, it too has significant amount of plastic cladding. Moreover, 1.0-litre variant from the 0.8-litre variant which will include an additional ‘SCe’ badge on the boot-lid, dual tone ORVMs and body graphics. Also, other additional features such as alloy wheels are likely to be incorporated for providing it with a sport look. The swelled up wheel arches makes the side profile of the car look somewhat like Renault’s compact SUV Duster. At the back, there is a small spoiler which leads to a slopping window. The tailgate is sculpted and has thick line running across it and sports the compact taillights. The rear bumper is made of the plastic cladding and houses the licence plate. Dimensionally, the Kwid measures 3679mm in length, 1579mm in width, 1471mm in height along with wheelbase of 2422mm and best in class ground clearance of 180mm.The hatchback is available in 5 exciting colours – Fiery Red, Outback Bronze, Moonlight Silver, Planet Grey and Ice Cool White.
Renault Kwid – Interiors
Likewise the exterior front, the interior of the Renault Kwid also gets a bold and stylish appearance that accentuates the overall appearance of the cabin. With the best-in-class cabin space of 300-litres, Renault Kwid offers feature rich cabin as compared to its competitors. The Kwid offers state-of-art features which include Touchscreen Media-NAV system with bluetooth, Aux and USB connectivity, power windows, keyless entry, and fully digital instrument cluster. The steering wheel is 3 spoke with a Renault logo on it but lacks the controls for the infotainment system. Front power windows and AC will be standard on all variants; same cannot be said about the infotainment system. Moreover, the boot space of 300 litres can be increased to 1115-litres by folding-up the rear seats.
Renault Kwid – Engine Specifications, Performance and Mileage
With the inclusion of more powerful powerhouse, Renault Kwid is now offered in two engine options – 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre. The smaller 0.8-litre petrol engine efficiently develops 53.2bhp of maximum power @ 5678 rpm against the peak torque of 72Nm of peak torque @ 4400 rpm. While the bigger 1.0-litre petrol unit is good for 67bhp @ 5500 rpm along with peak torque of 91Nm @ 4250 rpm. Talking about the transmission, both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. As far as the mileage factor is concerned, the regular version of Kwid is country’s most efficient petrol car as it returns ARAI certified mileage of 25.17 kmpl whereas the 1.0-litre variant delivers little less 23.01 kmpl.
