Nissan, the Japanese automotive giant, first launched Nissan Terrano SUV in India back in the year 2013. The Terrano is a compact SUV to come from the stables of Nissan that shares its design with the Renault Duster compact SUV. Being part of the Renault-Nissan alliance, the SUV shares a lot of parts as well as mechanical's with the Duster. Currently, Nissan Terrano is priced in India in the range of INR 9.99 lakh for the base XL petrol variant while the top end XV diesel variant is priced at INR 13.15 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi). The Nissan Terrano is available in a choice of two engine options that include a 1.6-litre K4M petrol and a 1.5-litre dCI K9K THP diesel unit which is available in two states of tune.
Nissan Terrano – Exteriors
Nissan Terrano is a very rugged SUV in terms of design along with a very robust build quality. On the exteriors, the Terrano has a very imposing stance and makes its presence felt. The exterior design of the SUV is quite intimidating with the large chrome garnished V-shaped front grille that houses the Nissan insignia. The grille is flanked by edgy twin pod headlights on either side while the muscular looking front bumper houses the round shaped fog lamp clusters and a wider air dam. While a faux silver skid plate is placed at the bottom of the bumper. Its design is further accentuated with bold character lines that are visible on the bonnet. The side profile of this SUV is quite similar to that of the Renault Duster with bulging wheel arches, 16-inch alloy wheels and twin roof rails remaining identical. While the rear profile gets split taillights, rear washer and a wiper, a chrome bar on the tailgate with a faux silver skid plate on a neatly designed rear bumper.
Nissan Terrano – Interiors
Interiors of Nissan Terrano are again very similar to that of the Renault Duster in terms of cabin layout and design. However, the cabin of the Terrano feels much more premium because of the dual tone black and beige interior scheme. The use of better quality materials further enhances the fit and finish of the cabin. Its centre console comes with a piano black finish while it is wrapped with silver accents around it. The SUV gets rectangular AC vents at the centre while the twin pod orange backlight instrument cluster gets subtle chrome accents around it. It also gets zebra wood finish inserts on the door panels. Both the front and rear seats get enough padding that provides good support for the back as well as thighs.

The imposing SUV stance of the Nissan Terrano is justified with the enormous proportions of this vehicle. As far as the dimensions are concerned, the Terrano SUV measures at 4331 mm in overall length, 1822 mm in width along with a height of 1671 mm. The compact SUV gets a decently long wheelbase of 2673 mm while the Nissan Terrano comes with a massive ground clearance of 210 mm that helps it to tackle any sort of terrains. It has a kerb weight at 1308 kgs.
Nissan Terrano – Features
Nissan Terrano is a decent package with a good list of features on offer. Therefore on-board this compact SUV is a new rear view camera along with guidelines, reverse parking sensors, manual air conditioning system, media navigation system and auto-up/down windows with anti-pinch functionality. The music system comes fitted with Bluetooth hands free phone system multi-function MID display, rear power socket, power adjustable ORVMs, rear seat armrest with cup holders and rear AC vents. This SUV also gets tilt adjustable steering wheel and 8-way adjustable driver seat.
Nissan Terrano – Safety Equipment
Safety has been of prime importance for Nissan in India. Thus on the safety front, the Nissan Terrano comes equipped with safety features like single driver side airbag, ABS along with EBD and Brake Assist as standard offerings across all the variants. Apart from these, higher variants of this compact SUV come with dual front airbags, seat belt warning, engine immobilizer and speed sensing door lock. Other features include a reverse parking sensors, front fog lamps and rear defogger.
Nissan Terrano – Engine Specifications and Performance
Nissan Terrano is offered with a choice of petrol as well as diesel engine option. Speaking off the diesel, it comes in two state of tunes. But first lets talk about the petrol, it is powered by a 1.6L K4M unit which is capable of producing 102 bhp of maximum power @ 5850 RPM along with a peak torque of 148 Nm @ 3750 RPM. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Now onto the diesel, the variant is powered by a 1.5 dCI K9K diesel mill. The lower tune variant produces 84 BHP of maximum power @ 3750 RPM along with 200 Nm of peak torque @ 1900 RPM and comes mated to the similar 5-speed manual gearbox that is used on the petrol variant. The higher tuned diesel engine is capable of producing 108 BHP of maximum power @ 3900 RPM while developing 248 Nm of peak torque @ 2250 RPM. Transmission duties on this engine are taken care of by a 6-speed manual transmission which is also used on the Renault Duster.
Nissan Terrano – Mileage
As far as the fuel efficiency is concerned; the petrol variant of Nissan Terrano delivers an ARAI tested fuel economy of 13.2 kmpl. The lower tuned diesel variant is capable of delivering a mileage of 20.5 kmpl. On the other hand, the higher tuned diesel variant of the Terrano delivers an ARAI tested fuel efficiency of 19.1 kmpl.

Nissan Terrano is available in a total of four variants. While the petrol model is available with a single “XL” variant, the diesel model is available in three variants that include the XE, XL and the top end XV THP Premium variant.
