After the successful launch of mid-sized SUV – GLC earlier this year in June, Mercedes Benz India has launched the ‘Made In India’ GLC SUV priced at INR 47.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). With the local production of the SUV, the company has managed to introduce a lower priced derivative than the CBU imported one. However, the CBU unit was priced at INR 50.70 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Finding its place between GLA and GLE, the Made in India SUV is based on the MRA platform which also underpins the C-Class. The company has rolled out locally assembled models such as C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, GLA-Class, CLA-Class, and the Maybach S 500 under its ‘Make-in-India’ banner. Moreover, the make-in-India GLC hops out some features which were seen on the standard CBU variant. The new CBU unit of GLC SUV is based on the new nomenclature system adopted by the company and was put on show at 13th edition of Auto Expo.
Mercedes Benz GLC Exterior
On the exterior front, the all-new SUV comes with bold face which is further highlighted by the two slat chrome grille with sweptback headlamps that offers an appealing look to it. Coming to the sides, the SUV gets a coupe like appeal thanks to swooping roofline and character lines running across the length. The sporty appeal of the SUV is further enhanced by the inclusion of the 18-inch alloy wheels that complements the side profile of the SUV. The rear profile of the SUV is categorized by the broad, muscular shoulders, the horizontal orientation of the outlines and the sleek look with S-class inspired taillights that proffers an idiosyncratic night design. The rear end gets a along with chunky rear skid plate and dual exhaust pipes. In terms of dimensions, the all-new mid-sized SUV comes with a length of 4656mm, width of 2096mm, height of 1644mm and large wheelbase of 2874mm. The SUV characteristic is enhanced by the Suave, sporty and reliable design of the vehicle.
Mercedes Benz GLC Interior
The cabin of the Mercedes Benz GLC looks pretty similar to that of its sedan sibling and features same dual tone interior. Moreover, the cabin flaunts a perfect balanced combination of leather and wood that accentuates the overall appearance. The cabin is spacious and very well built to proffer 550-litre of boot space which can be further increased to 1600-litres by folding up the rear seats. Moreover, wooden finished centre console along with chrome plated air vents as well as metal-finished buttons are some of the highlights of the new SUV. However, equipment levels look similar to that of C-Class. Feature wise, it gets ARTICO leather upholstery, Mercedes-Benz COMAND infotainment system, option for two 3-spoke steering wheel, Keyless starting function, sun-blinds in rear seats and Active Parking Assistance with reversing camera. etc. The GLC SUV also comes with a DYNAMIC SELECT Controller that enables the driver to choose between 5 drive modes - Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport+ and Individual.

The India made GLC SUV is also safety oriented as the CBU imported GLC SUV which comes with ESP Curve Dynamic Assist, LED High Performance Headlamps, Crosswind assist, PRE-SAFE, Attention Assist, Reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, Active Parking Assist, Adaptive brake lights, 7 airbags, Tyre pressure monitoring system and much more.
Mercedes Benz GLC Engine Specification
The new Mercedes Benz GLC is offered with the same set of engines options with a choice of petrol and diesel – a 2-Litre petrol and 2.2-Litre diesel engines. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit is capable of developing max power of 245bhp @ 5500 rpm against the peak torque of 370Nm @ 1300 – 4000 rpm. While, the bigger diesel unit is tuned to produce 170bhp of maximum power @ 3000 - 4200 rpm along with peak torque of 400Nm @ 1400 – 2800 rpm. Both the engines are coupled to newly developed 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. The petrol variant can easily sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.5 seconds for attaining the top speed of 222kmph while the diesel version accelerates to three figure mark in merely 8.3 seconds with the top speed of 210 kmph.
Mercedes Benz GLC Price and Competition
Earlier brought-in through CBU route, the Mercedes Benz GLC was launched with an introductory price of INR 50.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and goes till INR 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top end variant. However, the Made In India GLC SUV is priced lesser than the CBU imported unit as it gets a price tag of INR 47.90 lakh for Mercedes-Benz GLC 220 d Style, INR 51.50 lakh for Mercedes-Benz GLC 220 d Sport and INR 51.90 lakh for Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Sport (All ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. As far as the competition is concerned, the Mercedes Benz GLC competes against the likes of BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
