India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has finally launched its highly anticipated crossover car SX4 S-Cross in the country. The S-Cross crossover is available with diesel engine options only. Available in four trim levels- Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha, the Crossover directly rival against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the Hyundai Creta.
Exterior and Design:
The crossover has been majorly designed based on the hatchback version of the SX4 sedan, which was never launched in India. Having said that, with the sudden demand for compact utility vehicle, has prompted Maruti to release the new crossover vehicle in India.
In terms of exterior features the India bound S-Cross slightly resembles its sedan cousin when we see the front but apart from that the rest of the car is completely new. The crossover features a twin-slat chrome grille that accommodates Suzuki logo, large headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lamps, silver skid plate and wide airdam. On sides, the vehicle gets black plastic cladding on the base with silver garnish on skid, and roof rails. At the back, the SUV gets sharper tail-lamps and black silver cladding. It comes with a ground clearance of 180mm, which is decent for the Indian road conditions.
Interiors and Features:
On the inside, the S-Cross shares the styling with the Swift hatchback. It is equipped with brushed aluminum inserts and faux carbon fibre finish on layered dashboard. The range-topping variant gets premium leather upholstery, smartplay infotainment system, 7-inch touchscreen with CD, USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity, satellite navigation, automatic climate control, reverse parking sensors with camera, etc.
Engine and Specifications:
The new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is available with two diesel engines- 1.3-litre MJD and 1.6-litre MJD. While the former is capable of producing 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque, the 1.6L diesel engine churns out a maximum power output of 118bhp and 320Nm of torque. The 1.3L unit is paired to a five-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.6L unit is coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The crossover gets ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and dual airbags as standard safety and security features. Other safety features include HID projector headlamps, auto headlamps, reverse parking sensors with camera, engine immobilizer, etc.
