Country’s largest auto maker, Maruti Suzuki launched a new special Ciaz RS sport edition priced at INR 9.2 lakh – INR 10.28 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Ciaz RS variant is equipped with sporty exterior features as well as new improved premium interiors.
First introduced at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show as a concept, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has been the country's second best selling mid-sized sedan. The vehicle has recently received an upgrade in the form a mild hybrid system, which makes it the cheapest hybrid car available in the country. Named the Ciaz SHVS, this hybrid car is claimed to be India's most fuel efficient car with an ARAI rated fuel economy of 28.09kmpl.
Maruti Ciaz Exteriors
The Maruti Ciaz styling is based on the Suzuki Authentics concept, which was showcased at the 2014 Shanghai Motor Show in April. The sedan features an aggressive front fascia with trapezoidal front grille with ample amount of chrome, flanked by the sweptback headlamps and the elongated bonnet. On sides, the sedan gets a strong shoulder line that runs across the length. It gets a flared wheel arches and chrome door handles. At the back, the Ciaz gets new wrap around tail lamps, large bumper with an integrated reflectors, lip spoilers and chrome badges. Measuring 4,545mm in length, the Ciaz is longer than its closest competitions – the new Honda City and the Hyundai Verna.
Maruti Ciaz Interiors
The interior styling of the Ciaz sedan is simple, yet functional. The dashboard styling looks largely identical to other Maruti's available in our market including the Ertiga and the Swift Dzire. There is all-beige treatment for the dashboard. It is equipped with keyless entry and Start Stop Button , Suzuki's Smartplay infotainment system, AUX-in, USB, Bluetooth streaming with telephony, multi-functional steering wheel, reversing camera and navigation. Also on offer is a sunshade for the rear windscreen and automatic adjustable and retractable wing mirrors.
The Suzuki's Smartplay infotainment system gets a touchscreen unit, which is a segment first. The multi-functional steering wheel has controls for the audio system and Bluetooth telephony. There is faux wood and aluminium inserts on offer to give a premium feel. The light colour for the upholstery provides airy feel to the interior. On safety front, the sedan gets dual airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution) to mention a few.
Maruti Ciaz Engine Specifications and Mileage
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is available in two engine options- 1.4-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre MJD diesel coupled to Suzuki's SHVS hybrid system. The petrol engine is capable of producing a top power output of 94bhp along with a peak torque of 134Nm. The oil burner features Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), large battery and braking energy recuperation. The diesel engine churns out a maximum power of 88.5bhp at 4,000rpm along with a peak torque of 200Nm at 1,750rpm. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
The petrol engine is claimed to return an impressive mileage of 20.4kmpl. The diesel Ciaz is currently the country's most fuel efficient car, thanks to SHVS hybrid technology. It is claimed to deliver 28.09kmpl
Maruti Ciaz Price and Competition-
The Maruti Ciaz is priced at INR 7.24 lakh for the base petrol variant and goes up to INR 10.18 lakh for the top-end diesel model, prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. The Ciaz is a mid-sized sedan and it directly rival against the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento.
