Mahindra has been evolving great products for the Indian market. Be it long standing Bolero or the Thar – SUV's have been their core focus. Joining the list this year was the most anticipated Mahindra KUV100 which seems to be doing good for the Indian manufacturer. Thus creating a new offering for a segment(entry-level-sub 4 meter SUV) that remains mostly unexplored and competitive, Mahindra has today launched the Xplore Edition of KUV100 at an additional cost in relation to the normal variants already being sold in the market.
This introduction comes at a time when Mahindra KUV100 seems to be doing decent sale numbers. The objective would be to offer consumers more of what the normal KUV100 is featuring. Therefore first showcased during this year's Auto Expo, Mahindra KUV100 Xplore Edition is a beefed up version that caters to body kit comprising off door mouldings, updated front and rear bumpers with cladding, revised side-skirts & wheel arches, bonnet scoops, LED brake lights, pair of tail lamp protectors and roof rails along with a rear spoiler.
The newly launched KUV100 offers an aggressive styling along and an SUV stance with tall boy design. It also features a high bonnet and a muscular shoulder line and bold undercuts that runs across the length. The front facade seems to be inspired from XUV500 and flanked by wrapped-up headlamps along with LED DRLs and sports follow-me-home lamps, Lead-me-to-vehicle headlamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs as well as remote keyless entry feature. The side profile is enhanced by the mildly flared wheel arches which sports 6-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels along with wing mirrors incorporated with blinkers and black coloured under-body cladding. The rear profile of Mahindra KUV100 is rather very much simple and features large wraparound tail-lamps, chrome-accented rear fog lamps, stylish roof rails, black plastic cladding as well as rear wiper/washer. The new Mahindra KUV100 also gets sporty rear spoiler and dual-tone rear bumper with sporty mud-flaps. Moreover, Mahindra KUV100 is available in 7 different exciting colours – Pearl White, Designer Grey, Fiery Orange, Midnight Black, Dazzling Silver, Flamboyant Red and Aquamarine. As far as the dimensions are concerned, the new compact SUV measures 3675mm in overall length, 1715mm in total width, 1655mm in overall height and wheelbase of 2385mm along with ground clearance of 170mm.
On the inside, the cabin gets a dual-tone interior scheme with piano black finish for the dashboard that gives it a stylish and redefined look. The dashboard gets stylish and floating design that houses Joystick-like gearshift, Twin-pod instrument cluster and the steering wheel comes with bolsters. Moreover, the compact SUV also features driver height adjustable seat, cooled glove box, infotainment system with 4 speakers + 2 tweeter and two driving modes- Power and Eco along with Mahindra's Micro Hybrid Technology. As far as the safety is concerned, ABS with EBD is offered as standard across all variants while the dual airbags is available as option even on the base variant.
Engine Specifications, Performance and Mileage
The compact SUV is available in both petrol as well as diesel engine options – 1.2-litre mFalcon G80 petrol and 1.2-litre mFalcon D75 diesel. The 1.2-litre mFalcon G80 petrol engine cam effortlessly generate 82bhp of power @ 5500 rpm along with peak torque of 114Nm in between 3500-3600 rpm. While the 1.2-litre mFalcon D75 diesel engine churns out power output of 77bhp at 3750 rpm and peak torque of 190Nm in the range of 1750 – 2250 rpm. The transmission duties will be carried out by the five-speed manual gearbox. In terms of fuel efficiency, it is claimed to be the most fuel efficient SUV, as the petrol engine can return ARAI –certified mileage of 18.15kmpl whereas the diesel engine can deliver ARAI-certified mileage of 25.32kmpl.
Price and Competition
Mahindra launched the much awaited KOOL and trendy compact SUV, KUV100 in the price range of INR 4.42 lakh – INR 6.76 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). As far as the competition is concerned, the compact SUV don't face any direct competition but has been pitched against the hatchback such as Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Maruti Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10.
