Tata Owned, Jaguar Land Rover introduced Discovery Sport SUV in the domestic market as a replacement for the ageing Freelander 2. The new Land Rover Discovery Sport is offered in four trim levels - S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury. Moreover, the company also introduced a petrol version of the SUV due to ban on registration of diesel vehicles in NCR and Kerala.
Land Rover Discovery Sport Exterior
The exterior front the SUV shows some resemblance with its predecessor, however, the design cues have been borrowed from the Range Rover Series. The front fascia of the Discovery Sport features a new beefy front bumpers and silver skip plates for both front and rear. The rear end gets new arc-reactor-style LED tail lamps. Moreover, Land Rover Discovery Sport is lighter because of large percentage of aluminium employed in its construction. Dimensionally, the Land Rover Discovery Sport gets a length of 4,599mm, width of 2,173mm, and height of 1,724mm along with large wheelbase of 2,741mm and an elevated ground clearance of 212mm that can handle typical Indian rugged terrains.

On the inside, the new Discovery Sport comes with signature style leather upholstery as well as elegantly designed cabin which offers well-spaced comfort at every level. It comes with a luxurious 5 + 2 style configuration in the body size of a regular five - seater SUV. Feature-wise, it gets touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control system, and panoramic sunroof, front seats with electric adjustment, rear view camera, Parking Assistance USB charging sockets and Response Terrain. The Discovery Sport SUV comes equipped with safety features such as Driver, Front Passenger and Two Curtain Airbags, ABS With EBD, Hill Descent Control, Electronic Power Assisted Steering, Electronic Traction Control, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Hill Descent Control (HDC).
Land Rover Discovery Sport Engine Specifications
The Discovery Sport earlier was offered with diesel option only. However, the company has introduced the petrol version of the SUV. It is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-Litre petrol engine options. The 2.2-litre diesel engine comes in two forms - TD4 and SD4. The TD4 unit develops 150PS of max power along with peak torque of 400Nm while the SD4 is good for 190PS and 400Nm of power figures. The petrol unit produces 240PS of power. All the engines are mated to 9-speed automatic unit which comes with Rotary Drive Selector that transmits power to all- four wheels. The TD4 unit powers the S, SE and the HSE variants, while the SD4 version is offered with the range-topping HSE luxury variant.
Land Rover Discovery Sport Price and Competition
The newly introduced petrol derivative of Discovery Sport gets an attractive price tag of INR 56.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the base variant of the SUV is offered with a price tag of INR 47.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). In terms of competition, the SUV locks horns against the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X5 and Volvo XC60.
