Isuzu has been in the Indian market for a while now and was launched in the year 2012 but the limited reach through dealerships and limited after sales services had hampered its growth in the country. But the company is aiming to expand its footprint in the Indian market and is expected to be launching the MUX- 7 seater SUV in India on the 11th May, 2017. It is likely to replace the MU7 and will be available in two trims which comprise of 4X4 MT and AT along with a 4X2 variant.

The outer shell of the big and burly SUV is similar to the outgoing model with several bits looking similar to the Chevrolet Trailblazer. It gets projector headlamps with LED DRLs up front, a new bold grille with fog lamps topped with chrome. The side profile shows off massive size with large muscular wheel arches which house newly designed 18 inch alloy wheels and roof rails for practicality. The rear end comes with sedan like LED taillights, high mounted stop lamp, skid plate and wraparound rear windshield.

The interiors are also similar to the Trailblazer and follows the premium dual tone colour scheme with a new dashboard style. It gets premium wood trim with aluminium touches and new leather seat upholstery. The central console is fitted with an 8 inch touch screen infotainment unit with navigation, USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity. Another stand out feature is the roof mounted 10 inch DVD monitor along with 6-way adjustable electric seats. Practicality in the cabin is enhanced by folding 2nd and 3rd row seats, auto climate control, 12 cup holders and 19 cubby holes.

It is likely to be offered in a choice of two different diesel engines and could include RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre turbo diesel and a 4JJ1-TCX 3.0-litre turbo diesel. The latter churns out 175bhp @ 3,600rpm of power with 380 Nm of torque @1,800rpm – 2,800rpm whereas the former puts out 148 bhp @ 3600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque @ 1800 to 2600 rpm. The 1.9 litre motor is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with 2 Wheel drivetrain whereas the 3.0 litre engine is handled by a 6-speed auto shift and 4WD drivetrain.
2017 Isuzu MUX Expected price, competition and launch date
The expected price for the Japanese SUV is in the range of INR 24 lakh to 30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and it competes against the other full size SUVs in the market which comprise of the Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Ford Endeavor. The launch date is likely to be on 11th of May according to some reports.
