Hyundai is soon going to launch an all new sub-compact SUV in the Indian market. Showcased at this year’s Delhi Auto Expo 2016 in its concept form, the same is expected to make its debut sometime during the year 2018. It will help the South Korean automaker bank on the current craze for urban SUV in India which is on a continuous rise. Hyundai at the moment has there SUV in its portfolio which includes the Creta, Tucson and Santa Fe.
Hyundai sub-compact SUV (Carlino): Exteriors
Since the production model is yet to be revealed by Hyundai, we cannot make any solid statements about exactly what the exterior profile of this all new sub-compact SUV will look like. However what we can safety assume is that this SUV will be based upon the automaker’s evolved Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. What this means is that this all new vehicles will get a stylish visual profile which is highlighted with sharp yet elegant elements. The Carlino will be based on the same platform as that of the current generation Hyundai Elite i20, not only this it will share its certain design features with the same as well. Up-front, there will be present the Hyundai’ signature hexagonal grille, elongated headlamps and molded bumper. The over-all silhouette of the SUV will be curvaceous yet daunting in nature, much like the one that we see on its elder siblings, the Hyundai Tucson and Hyundai Santa Fe. Towards the rear we will get a augmented boot lid and tail-lights which could very well be a direct lift from the ones that we see on the Hyundai i20 hatchback.
Hyundai Sub-Compact SUV (Carlino): Interiors
Just like the exterior of this all new sub-compact SUV, not concrete information exists of the interiors of the same as well. However, the design of the dashboard will be inspired from the ones that we see on the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Hyundai i20. Just like every other Hyundai, this Carlino is to get an up-market cabin upholstery which is to emerge as its USP when the same is launched in India. Also just like every other Hyundai, the Carlino is to come equipped with all sorts of modern day creature comforts and features on board. The SUV will offer a seating capacity of 5 persons along with a sizable boot which can easily swallow big to medium size luggage with ease. Also since stricter regulations regarding safety equipments of vehicles are to come in to operation soon, the Carlino will be equipped with dual-airbags and ABS as standard.
Hyundai Sub-Compact SUV (Carlino): Engine specification
If current media reports are to be believed, the Hyundai Sub-Compact SUV will be made available with both petrol and diesel derivatives. The petrol powered variant of this SUV is likely to come equipped with 1.0-litre turbocharged engine while the diesel variant could get a 1.4-litre oil-burner. The transmission responsibilities are to be handled by a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Earlier it was speculated that this Carlino is to share its engine line-up with the current generation Hyundai i20. These is a possibility that Hyundai might just provide the Carlino with an optional 1.4-litre petrol unit as well.
Hyundai Sub-Compact SUV (Carlino): Launch Date, Price and Competition
The Hyundai sub-compact SUV is expected to be launched in India sometime during the second half of 2018. The prices are likely to fall in the bracket of INR 6.5 lakh to INR 9.5 lakh. When launched the same will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300.
