With the moderate success of the fifth generation Elantra saloon in the Indian auto market, Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) decided to bring-in a refreshed version of Elantra sedan. Introduced four years ago in the domestic market, the last generation model succeeded moderately by attracting decent number of consumers. However, Hyundai is looking to plump for an optimistic approach for the Indian market with the next generation Hyundai Elantra sedan which comes with an introductory price of INR 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). With moderate success with previous generation Elantra, the company is aiming to gain bigger pie this time in the mid-size segment. Moreover, the company is also focusing on other models such as Tucson SUV, Verna sedan and Elite i20 automatic in the near future. Talking about the new Hyundai Elantra, the 6th generation Elantra is based on company’s Fluidic 2.0 design language and is longer and wider than the previous generation model by is 40mm and 25 mm respectively.
2016 Hyundai Elantra – Exterior
On the exterior front, the 2016 Hyundai Elantra carries bold, modern and futuristic design which shows similarities with Hyundai Genesis and Sonata sedans. Based on Hyundai’s Fluidic 2.0 design language, it gets a sharper exterior profile compared to outgoing model’s curvaceous design. The front fascia of the sedan sports a hexagonal front grille, sleek high intensity discharge headlamps, LED DRLs with positioning headlamps, projector headlamps and new front bumper. The side profile of the saloon gets a stylish look with 16-inch alloy wheels, sloping roofline with shark fin antenna and chrome door handles. The rear end of the sedan comes with split type LED tail lights which is complemented by a revamped rear bumper as well as rear fenders. Dimension-wise, the all-new 6th generation Hyundai Elantra gets a length of 4570mm, width of 1880mm, and height of 1465mm. The wheelbase and ground clearance for the saloon stands at 2700mm and 153mm respectively. The next generation Elantra Saloon is available in 5 exciting tones – Marina Blue, Polar White, Sleek Silver, Phantom Black and Red Passion.

On the inside, the new generation Elantra Saloon hosts upgraded features inside the cabin as it gets better quality materials and hi-tech gizmos such as 7-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple Car Play, cruise control, dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard features, Siri Eyes-Free and Pandora connectivity, Eco and Sport driving modes, Smart Surround system with 6-speakers, Dual automatic zone with Cluster Ionizer, Engine start/ stop button, Rear AC vents, front ventilated seta, Electro Chromic mirrors, Android Auto with the customary navigation and entertainment options, Lane-changing Assist, tire pressure monitoring system and park assist with rear camera and much more.

As Hyundai India always emphasize on safety features, Hyundai Elantra is also built under Hyundai’s ‘Safe Drive Philosophy’ that comply company’s strict safety standards and safety requirements. The new Hyundai Elantra sedan comes with 6-Airbags, Anti-lock brake system (ABS) with EBD, reverse parking camera with adaptive guidelines, parking sensors, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill Start Assist Control (HSAC), Front projector headlamps, HID headlamps, speed sensing lock and height adjustable seat belts.
2016 Hyundai Elantra – Engine Specifications and Performance
As far as the powertrains are concerned, the new 2016 Hyundai Elantra is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The 2.0-litre MPI petrol unit is capable of producing 149bhp of maximum power @ 600 rpm and peak torque of 192 Nm @ 4000 rpm. Whereas the 1.6-litre VGT CRDi diesel engine is capable of producing 126bhp of maximum power @ 4000 rpm along with peak torque of 260Nm in between 1900 to 2750 rpm. Both the engines are mated to six-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox.
2016 Hyundai Elantra – Mileage
As far as the mileage is concerned, the petrol variant is capable of delivering mileage of 14.59 kmpl and 14.62kmpl respectively for the manual and the automatic transmissions, whereas the diesel variant of the car returns a mileage of 22.54kmpl and 18.23kmpl for the manual and the automatic transmissions respectively.

The new generation Hyundai Elantra for the domestic market is priced in the range of INR 12.99 lakh – INR 19.19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the sedan rivals against the likes of Chevrolet Cruze, Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia, Renault Fluence and Toyota Corolla Altis.
