The Fiat Punto was one of the first cars that marked the Italian carmaker’s re-entry into the Indian car market. After a number of facelift and updates the current generation of the much popular premium hatchback is sold in India is called the Punto Evo, which looks much premium and stylish than its predecessors. Moreover recently the car maker launched two new versions of the car – first one was the Abarth Punto Evo, a performance oriented version of the car built by the company’s performance brand Abarth, while the most recent one is the Punto Sportivo a limited edition model with sporty design editions and features.
Design and Exterior:
In terms of design the Fiat Punto Evo is one of the most stylish premium hatches in the market. One of the major design highlights of the car is the extensive use of chrome and exterior features that gives the car its premium persona. The front fascia boasts stylish sweptback headlamps, a well designed grille with chrome bezels and a set of round fog lamps in a very prominent casing with large chrome bezels. Towards the side you’ll see flared wheel arches, sporty alloy wheel and aerodynamically design ORVMs with turn indicators. The rear end of the car looks proportionate and clean, the tail lamps are placed well above, one each side of the rear windshield that comes with a single viper. Below you’ll see some large reflectors that come with chrome bezels connected by a chrome slat. The Punto Evo comes in seven colour options Glitterati Gold, Hip Hop Black, Tuscan Wine, Minimal Gray, Pearl White, Exotic Red and Magnesio Gray.
The Limited Edition Punto Sportivo on the other hand gets a new dual-tone paint job. It features a white chequered flag graphic that runs longitudinally through the center of its bonnet. Adding to it, the special edition model gets new decals on the sides and Sportivo badging. The outside rear view mirrors get chrome garnish, while the rear gets a new spoiler. The flared wheel arches have been fitted to 6x2 spoke 15-inch wheels. It also gets a reverse parking sensors.
Interiors and Features:
The inside of the Fiat Punto Evo comes with a two dual tone interior options – Black & Gray and Beige and Black. Along with it the car offers a host of features that compliments its exterior persona. The dashboard has been neatly design and comes with a well-equipped centre console. The Punto Evo also offers a large multifunctional steering that has been designed that feels firm and easy to control while driving.
In terms of features the Punto Evo offers premium upholstery with ambient lighting, sleek push buttons, smarter controls, and a glove compartment. The car also comes with rear AC vents and nifty storage compartments along door panels. Other features include Automatic Climate Control, manual Driver Seat Adjustment, leather-wrapped Steering Wheel & Gear Knob and dual front airbags among others.The interior kit on the limited edition Punto Sportivo comprises new seat covers, 6.5” touch screen infotainment system, special carpet mats with FIAT branding and special flat door sill.
Under the hood the Fiat Punto Evo is powered by a 1.2-litre and a 1.4-litre FIRE petrol engine along with a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine in two power options. The smaller petrol motor churns out a maximum power of 68 PS and 96 Nm of peak torque, while the more powerful 1.4-litre engine makes 90 PS of max power and 115 Nm of peak torque. The oil burner on the other hand comes in two power option 76 PS and 93 PS, while the peak torque in both stands at 197 Nm and 209 Nm respectively.
Price and Competition:
As for the price Fiat offers the Punto Evo premium hatchback in the range of INR 4.99 – 7.71 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). In India the car competes with the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz.
