Datsun, Nissan’s sub brand inclined for offering affordable and budget oriented vehicles for the emerging markets like Asian countries. In order to grasp more from the Indian market, Datsun has introduced its third product to its current line-up adding more depth to the portfolio. Based on Renault Kwid's CMF-A modular platform, Urban-Cross hatchback comes with a starting price of INR 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) which undercuts its rival Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 by approximatley INR 10,000. The Redi-Go has been designed smartly to lock its horns against the counterparts for instance the Hyundai Eon, Maruti Suzuki Alto and its cousin the Renault Kwid.
In order to keep the momentum going, the automaker has launched the sporty avatar of the hatchback in the country – Redi-GO Sport. Priced at 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the redi-GO hatch is offered on the S-Trim only. Moreover, the company has appointed Sakshi Malik as the Brand Ambassador for the Auto brand and she became the first customer of the new Redi-GO Sport. The Sport version of the hatchback gets 9 updates as compared to the regular version of the hatch. It gets black finished grille which is accentuated by the sporty design and sporty strips on the bonnet. With the inclusion of Sport variant in the line-up, the hatchback is offered in 6 variants – D, A, T, T (O), S and Sport S.
Datsun redi-GO Exterior
Talking about the exterior front, the redi-GO accustoms futuristic design that derives the vehicle with extensive appeal unlike the Go and the Go+. This urban hatchback flaunts a D-cut honeycomb chrome grille which is inspired from other GO models available in the company's portfolio. The swept back headlamps, LED fog lamps comes integrated into the bumper and halogen headlights form an integral part of its front appeal. On the sides, the design is quite quirky and the prominent elongated creases extending into the boot on either sides of the vehicle lends it a funky appearance. However, this attribute helps Redi-Go to stand apart from others in the segment. It also comes with a sloping roof-line embraced with a smaller rear spoiler at the rear. Unlike the front and side, the rear is less chiselled and rather gets a simple look. Ground clearance of 185mm which is slightly more than Renault Kwid, the hatch oozes over the potholes and bumps quiet easily. Dimensionally, it measures 3429mm in length, 1560mm in width and 1541mm in height. It comes shod on 13-inch wheels. The company comes in five paint schemes – Silver, White, Lime, Bronze Grey and Ruby.
Talking about the Sports variant, it comes with sporty and dynamic design that complements the theme grille red accents offered on the black grille. The sporty graphics proffered ensures a sporty look and enhances the overall appearance of the car. Coming to the sides, it gets all-black theme wheel covers and side sports strip that offers an elegant feel to the profile. At the rear, the hatchback gets sporty roof spoiler and sporty strip which runs across the roof till the rear section which is complemented by the plastic cladding. The Sporty variant of the hatch is offered in 3 exciting colours – Red, White and Grey.
Datsun redi-GO Interior
On the inside, the company has shrewdly loaded the hatchback with notable features in spite of being an entry-level hatchback. Feature wise, it comes with a 2-DIN music system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, 3-spoke steering wheel and air-conditioner among others. Moreover, the quality of the plastic feels up-market from rest of the offerings available in the company's product portfolio. In terms of comfort and space, the one caters to decent amount of head, shoulder and legroom for the adult passengers. The rear section of Redi-Go caters to 102mm more which is more than the segment leader – Maruti Alto 800. For storage it provides elements such as glove box, cup holders, door pockets to name a few. Featured with fabric seats, this one stands to provide comfortable seats and an airy cabin. On the safety front, the company offers airbags only as optional features.
The limited edition Redi-GO Sport also gets interesting updates as compared to the regular version. The all-black interiors and sporty dashboard essentially complements the overall design of the cabin. Feature-wise, it comes with sporty and convenience features such as rear parking sensors, remote keyless entry and Bluetooth audio system.
Datsun redi-GO Engine Specifications and Performance
Powering this four door hatchback is a 3-cylinder, 800cc petrol engine which is derived from the Renault Kwid and is tuned to develop 52bhp of maximum power @ 5768 rpm along with a peak torque of 72Nm @ 4386 rpm. The petrol unit comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox that transmits power to the front wheels. As far as the fuel efficiency is concerned, it comes with company claimed mileage of 25kmpl which is better than its competitor Alto 800 which delivers 24.3kmpl. The Sports avatar is also powered by the same engine – 0.8-litre petrol engine tuned to develop 52 bhp and 72 Nm of power figures with the same 5-speed manual gearbox.
Datsun redi-GO Price & Competition
Datsun India introduced its third model in the country by launching the redi-GO hatchback earlier this year in the month of June. Moreover, the company now has introduced the sporty avatar of the hatchback which is priced at INR 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Prior to the introduction of Sport version, the entry level car was offered in the price range of INR 2.39 lakh – INR 3.34 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Having said that the Sport variant will be a limited edition, it is introduced to cater the audience for the festive season. In terms of competition, the new redi-GO hatch competes against Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and Renault Kwid.
