Datsun, the low budget subsidiary of Nissan Motors, recently unveiled a crossover concept version of its entry level MPV Go Plus. Christened as the Go-Cross, this stylish concept was introduced at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept comes with all the attributes of an ideal crossover car and the production model could be a key rival to Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross.
Datsun GO-Cross Design and Exterior:
In terms of design, being a concept car the Datsun Go-Cross does not comes with any design restriction, which has allowed the engineers at Datsun to give the Go-Cross a largely aggressive persona. The concept comes with all the styling and design cues that the company is giving to its new breed of cars. Up front the Go-Cross Concept features a large hexagonal grille with thick black chrome bezel, flanked by sleek headlamps with LED projector lights. It also gets a uniquely styled round lighting underneath the headlamps, a rugged bumper with an extending skid plates and LED fog lamps.
Towards the side profile you’ll see black plastic wheel fenders and under body cladding and stylishly designed roof rails. The crossover concept also comes with large sporty dual 6-spoke alloy wheels and aerodynamically designed wind mirrors. As for the rear profile the Datsun Go-Cross comes with a well sculpted tail gate with LED combination tail lamps and reflectors encased in black chrome casing. You’ll also see a beefy plastic cladded rear bumper with large silver skid plate with yellow streaks.
Datsun GO-Cross Interiors and Features:
The Datsun Go-Cross is simply a concept and the carmaker is yet to reveal more information regarding the production model. Once it does, you can expect to see a largely premium look interiors with comfortable upholstery and smartly laid out cabin. The top end variant of the Datsun Go Plus offers driver side airbags as option, but considering the amount of time this GO-Cross concept might take to go into production and the new safety regulations that are set to comes to India, you can expect to see ABS and Dual Airbags too.
Datsun GO-Cross Engine Specifications:
The carmaker has revealed no information regarding the powertrain, but it is possible that Go-Cross could feature a tuned version of current engine of the GO Plus. While the Datsun only offers the GO Plus in petrol variant it is a possibility that the carmaker might introduce a diesel mill for the crossover concept.
Datsun GO-Cross Launch Date, Competition and Price:
It is quite early to comment whether the Datsun Go-Cross concept would enter into production or not, but the growing popularity for affordable SUVs and crossovers could prompt Nissan to get this car into production. Once it is launched the car will go up against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Maruti S-Cross and upcoming Honda B-RV. In case Datsun does launch the Go-Cross the crossover will be priced anywhere around INR 5 – 10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
