Volvo, the Swedish automaker is all set to launch its flagship luxury sedan, the S90 today in India. It will join the ranks of BMW 5-Series, Audi A6, Mercedes E-Class and the Jaguar XE. When launched, the same will replace the S80 luxury sedan in India and will be the third all new vehicle to be launched by the Swedish automaker in our country. So ahead of its launch, here is all what you can expect out of the Volvo S90. As you may already know, the Volvo S90 is based on the same Scalable Architecture Platform that also underpins the XC90 SUV. Its exterior design language is inspired from the one seen on the recent Volvo's and hence is quite sharp yet elegant in nature.
The Volvo S90 will replace the current S80 sedan in India and hence will take its position as the flagship model for the automaker in India. Supporting a wheelbase of 2,941mm, the same will score high in terms of its space on offer along with featuring plenty of creature comforts as well.
Some of the major highlights of the Volvo S90 sedan include a long body structure which is highlighted by simple yet elegant character lines. Up-front one gets Volvo’s signature grille which is cordoned on either side by sharp headlamps which house Thor’s hammer shaped daytime running LEDs. Sitting below it is a finely sculpted bumper with quite a lot of detailing. The side profile of the sedan is plain and simple. The doors have finely sculpted structure while the window panes are highlighted by chrome. At the back, the design turns slightly sharp and edgy. Coming to the interior of the Volvo S90, the same, just like every other Volvo is going to be extremely plush in nature. The same will be primarily wrapped in leather, along with various chrome and wood highlights to further accentuate the premium nature of the cabin. The centre console will get 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system which will work in tandem with a plethora of speakers on board. The rear seats will offer plenty of comfort in the form of plenty of head, shoulder and legroom. There will be steering mounted controls, a digital instrument cluster, rear air con vents and rest of the gadgets and gizmos that one can expect out of a luxury sedan on this category.
The engine specifications of the Volvo S90 will include a 2.0-litre, turbocharged diesel engine which is expected to be made available in two states of tune. In one form it will pump out 187Bhp along with 400Nm while in the other guise it will produce 231Bhp along with 490Nm of peak torque. The transmission responsibilities will be handled by an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Volvo S90 will be imported to India as a completely built unit, and hence expect the prices of the same to be slotted somewhere around the bracket of INR 40 lakh to INR 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Falling in this price bracket, the Volvo S90, when launched in India will compete against the likes of BMW 5-series, Audi A6, Mercedes Benz E-Class and the Jaguar XF.
