German automotive giant, Volkswagen, has imported two different units of the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan premium SUV in India suggesting that the SUV will be launched in two trim levels. As per the records on online listing website Zauba.com, the Tiguan has been imported in India for testing and homologation purposes. Volkswagen had first showcased the VW Tiguan in India at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi while the German car manufacturer had also revealed its plans to launch the SUV in India depending upon customer interest. The Volkswagen Tiguan is underpinned by the modular MQB platform that also forms the basis for the Skoda Octavia and the Volkswagen Passat apart from other Volkswagen Group company cars.
Volkswagen Tiguan 2017 Design Exterior
While the Volkswagen Tiguan is based on the MQB platform, the SUV comes with a bold and aggressive design philosophy while the overall design is inspired from the Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE. Highlighting the front profile of the car are the large LED headlights that seamlessly blend into the twin slat chrome grille. The muscular front bumper houses a wide air dam at the bottom while the horizontal fog lamps complement the overall front end of the car. The side profile of the Tiguan gets a prominent character line, black plastic cladding on the wheel arches while a chrome strip is present on the windows outline and on the doors as well. The rear section sports an integrated spoiler and split LED taillights while the rear bumper gets black plastic cladding and silver skid plate.

On the interiors front, the Volkswagen Tiguan comes with Pure Air Climatronic three-zone automatic climate control system, panoramic sunroof, electric front seats with four-way lumbar support and massage function. Other features include, multi-function three spoke flat bottom steering wheel and a touch-screen infotainment system with VW Car-Net App Connect and Fender premium audio system with a 400-watt amplifier and nine speakers.

On the safety front, the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan will come with features like an Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Lane Assist departure warning system, City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring System, seven airbags, driver side knee airbag, adaptive cruise control (ACC), Area View (360-degree view), Pre-Crash proactive occupant protection and Side Assist (lane-changing assistant).

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a premium compact SUV from the German carmaker and comes with decent dimensions. The SUV measures at 4,485 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width and 1,633 mm in height while the Tiguan has a fairly long wheelbase of 2,682 mm. As compared to the previous generation model, the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is larger in dimensions with 70 mm longer in length, 30.5 mm wider in width and 76 mm longer wheelbase.

Globally, the Volkswagen Tiguan is available with an array of petrol and diesel engine options while the India spec model will come with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 177 BHP of maximum power along with 320 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the oil burner os powered by a 2.0-litre TDI turbocharged diesel engine that is capable of pumping out 148 BHP of maximum power while developing a peak torque rating of 340 Nm. Transmission duties are carried out by a 6-speed manual gearbox while a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission is available on both the engine options. The car is expected to come with both 2WD (two wheel drive) and 4WD (four wheel drive) options.

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan premium compact SUV will be imported in India as CKD units and will be assembled locally at the company’s facility in Chakan, Pune. The newn Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to be launched in India in the first half of 2017.

Online listing site Zauba.com lists the import value of the Volkswagen Tiguan at INR 30.9 lakh and INR 36.33 lakh respectively. The SUV will be assembled locally and is expected to be priced in India in the range of INR 25 lakh to INR 35 lakh (expected ex-showroom price Delhi).
