The much-awaited Volkswagen Ameo compact sedan is all set to go on sale in the country. Bookings for the car will commence from May 12, while the deliveries are expected to commence from July, 2016. The company is betting big on the new Ameo sedan to improve its sales in the highly competitive market. Speaking to PTI, Andreas Lauermann, VW India President and Managing Director said that the company is expecting to produce 15 per cent more cars this year at the Chakan plant. The new VW Ameo will be playing an important role in the increase in production at the company's Chakan plant. The compact sedan is specifically designed and developed for the domestic market. It will rival against the likes of the Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and the Ford Figo Aspire.
The Ameo is based on the VW PQ25 platform that also underpins the Polo and the Vento. It will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options that include 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder MPI and 1.5-litre TDI, four-cylinder diesel. While the former is capable of producing 74bhp of power along with 110Nm of torque, the oil burner is good for 89bhp and 230Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a five-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG automatic unit.
The vehicle is equipped with dual airbags and anti-lock braking system as standard safety feature. Other safety features include cruise control, rain sensing wipers. rear view camera with parking sensors, lane change indicator, front and rear fog lamps, etc.
