Skoda Auto recently launched the facelift of their C-segment sedan Rapid with a design much more up market than the previous one. But Skoda has much more in the store with several new cars coming to the Indian shores next year. The company is currently on a roll and is going to diversify its product portfolio by bringing the 7-seater SUV Kodiaq and the 2nd generation of the Skoda Yeti. Another new vehicle that is to be launched is the Skoda Octavia vRS which is the performance version of the Octavia. This is going to be the second entry of the vRS in the Indian market after a lively but short-lived stint in the past. Here is what these cars have to offer individually.
Skoda Kodiaq will be the first 7-seater SUV from the house of the Czech car maker to be introduced into India. As expected this will be placed on the premium side of SUV market with the possibility of competing with the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavor. The SUV is going to be sold in a choice of two diesels and three petrol engines. Speaking about the diesels first, the lineup consists of a 2.2 litre unit that is offered in two states of power- 148 bhp and 187 bhp. While the petrol portfolio will have a 2.2 litre TSI petrol engine with a power figure of 178 bhp. Plus an additional smaller capacity 1.4 litre TSI petrol motor that can produce power in two states of tune-123 bhp and 148 bhp. The buyers will have an option of choosing from a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG transmission. The drive train options consist of an all-wheel drive as well as a front wheel drive.
2nd generation Skoda Yeti
Skoda Yeti has been given a few tucks and nips in the past however with its long shelf life, the company would be looking to bring in something new for the consumer. Thus with significant design changes, the 2nd Generation Skoda Yeti will bears to provide exterior features that are inline with the Kodiaq SUV as it is based on the MQB platform. Its design borrows a lot of cues from the Vision S Concept showcased by the brand at the Geneva Motor Show. The new Yeti is likely to be powered by a 1.4 litre TSI petrol engine that will churn out 140 bhp of power as it is expected to come with hybrid technology on board. There is a possibility of two diesel engines with a 1.6 litre power plant that produces 120 bhp along with 2.0 litre engine that punches out 180 bhp. The new gen Skoda Yeti will fall under a price bracket of INR 19 lakh – 24 lakh (ex-showroom). Its launch date has not been confirmed but several reports suggest that it might take place in the second half of 2017 or early 2018.
As Skoda is a subsidiary of Volkswagen, Citigo is a rebadged version of the Volkswagen Up that is sold in Europe. There have been talks of Skoda Citigo’s arrival in India by mid-2017. The Citigo is expected to compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Fiat Punto, Honda Brio and Tata Bolt. It is likely to derive power from a 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces around 70 bhp of power output while being mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Citigo will be a sub-4 meter hatchback measuring 3650 mm in length, 1650 mm in width and 1480 mm in height along with a wheelbase of 2420 mm. The hatch will be manufactured in India as prices are expected to be in the range of INR 4.5 lakhs to 7 lakhs.
Skoda Octavia vRS
The Skoda Octavia vRS is the powerful version of the stock Octavia sedan and comes powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine along with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The petrol variant is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that is capable of producing 217bhp of power along with 350Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the oil burner is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that produces 182bhp of maximum power. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission. the car has a top speed of 248kmph and 232kmph respectively for the petrol and diesel variants.
Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo
Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo will be paying homage to the company’s racing heritage. The Monte Carlo styling will be visible in a special red body colour which is accompanied by prominent black accents on the vertical front grille, new inserts in the headlamps, black coloured ORVMs and alloy wheels. The rear end will comprise of tail lamp enclosures that provide crystal elements inside. Rapid Monte Carlo will be using the same 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.6 L MPI petrol engine that are currently powering the stock sedan. Thus Skoda will charge a premium for the Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo edition over a regular Rapid.
