A screenshot of an OBD (on-board diagnostic) system has surfaced on the internet which shows that the Tiago hatchback with AMT transmission will be available in two variants-XT and XZ. The screenshot has been taken by an informed member of Team-BHP and it is likely that Tata Motors will launch the awaited car in March although the company is yet to release an official statement on the same.
As expected in the segment that Tata Tiago belongs to, the AMT (automated manual transmission) will be available only in a petrol derivative. It will be the same 1.2 L 3 cylinder, Revotron unit which churns out a max power output of 83 bhp with 114 Nm of max torque. The new transmission is built by Magneti Marelli and will be 5-speed unit. We expect that the fuel efficiency of the Tata Tiago AMT to be in a range similar to the manual models which stand at around 24 kmpl and if the mileage figures can be anywhere near that, then the Tata Tiago is sure to become a blockbuster of sorts.
The once launched, the Tiago AMT will be locking horns with the likes of Maruti Celerio AMT, Hyundai Grand i10 AT and also the Renault Kwid AMT 1.0. The competition in the budget Automatic cars is increasing gradually and Tata wants to make an impact in this segment with its Tiago AMT which follows the IMPACT philosophy.
