Kite 5, Viago or Altigo, these were the few names which were speculated to be christened as the one for the upcoming Tata compact sedan. But now, putting an end to all these speculations, Tata Motors, in an official communications have confirmed that the Tiago based compact sedan will be called the ‘Tigor’. Tata Motors is calling the Tigor as India’s first ‘Styleback’ and that it will be launched soon in India. First showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, under the name concept name Kite 5, the same has been seen several times, draped in a heavily camouflaged avatar, doing its test rounds in India.
Announcing the name Tata TIGOR, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “After HEXA, we are speeding towards our next market introduction, the Tata TIGOR which opens a new category of style and attitude in this segment. The break-free design dynamics of Tata TIGOR makes it India’s 1st ‘Styleback’. We will announce its commercial launch soon and are excited to see the IMPACT of the ‘Styleback’ on our customers. The ‘Tigor’ will be based on the existing Tiago’s chassis and is to be an extended, sedan version of the same. What this means is that this all new compact sedan from Tata Motors will get an aesthetic profile which is to be quite similar to that of its hatchback derivative and hence is to be the third vehicle based on the automaker’s IMPACT design philosophy. The interior design and equipment list of the ‘Tigor’ is also expected to be quite similar to that of the Tiago. As far as the engine specifications are concerned, the ‘Tigor’ will get the same petrol and diesel power-trains. Not only this, it is expected that the ‘Tigor’ will get, right from the launch, an AMT equipped version as well.
Just like the Tiago, the Tigor will be competitively priced and hence is expected to fall in the bracket of INR 4 lakh to 6 lakh (ex-showroom).
