Tata is going to launch the much anticipated Hexa crossover MPV in the Indian market on the 16th of January this year. Aimed at competing against the likes of the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Mahindra XUV500, the Tata Hexa, with its multitude of capabilities and forays, seems to emerge as a big game changer for Tata Motors in India. So here we take a look at all the major highlights of this upcoming new vehicle from Tata Motors and what makes it such an interesting proposition for the Indian car market.
The Tata Hexa is based upon the automaker’s all new IMPACT design philosophy, the results of which we have already seen on the Tiago hatchback. Hexa’s exterior profile, thanks to its sharp character lines, looks quite dominating yet elegant in nature. One can easily see the similar silhouette of the Aria MPV, on which the Hexa is essentially based upon. It gets stylish projector headlamps, generous use of chrome all around, massive 19-inch alloy wheels, thick plastic cladding among the others. On the inside, the Hexa comes with a premium cabin, things have been kept in such a way that they are ergonomic as well as graceful in nature. One of the other major highlight of the Tata Hexa are the multitude of features that it comes loaded with. These will include steering mounted controls, multi-information display, Harman touchscreen infotainment system, 4 driving modes (Auto, Comfort, Dynamic, Rough Road), automatic climate control, 6-way adjustable driving seat, cruise control, follow me headlamps and much more. Tata is to offer the Hexa with a choice of two engines. Both will be from the automaker’s VARICOR diesel line-up. The engine is to remain the same, it is going to be a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder oil burner, which in the VARICOR320 guise will produce 148Bhp and 320Nm of peak torque while in the VARICOR400 guise will churn out 154bhp and 400Nm of peak torque. Transmission and 4×4 System
In order to ease out drivability factor, Tata is to equip the Hexa with both manual and automatic transmissions. The former, in the lower XE trim will be available as a 5-speed unit while the XM and XT trims are to get a 6-speed manual version. Not only this, Tata will also be making the Hexa available in both 4-wheel drive and 2-wheel drive configurations. Further adding to the preposition will be the Super Drive modes, an exclusive feature if we compare it to the Innova and the XUV500.
Since the Hexa will be highly locally produced, the prices of the same are expected to be highly competitive. The base 2-wheel drive version is likely to start from INR 12 lakh while the top of the line 4-wheel drive version could fall close to INR 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
