Soon there might be a coupe version of the Grand Vitara amongst us. The immensely popular SUV from Suzuki Motor Corporation, according to a report published in Motoring.com.au will be launched in a coupe avatar in the coming years.
Currently sold in India as a fully fledged SUV, the Grand Vitara is due for a generation update which is soon expected to make its debut in India.
Kinji Saito, Managing Officer and Executive General Manager, Suzuki, in a recent conversation with the Australian publication established that the automaker is looking towards designing a product which is a little different from the standard SUVs and hatchbacks such that it carters to the needs of a niche customer. Mr. Saito said: “We don’t release our plans in advance but certainly we are very interested to continue SUVs and attractive compact hatchback and maybe we will make some (vehicles) between.”
He further added “So we always consider not only the typical SUV and typical hatchback, but also that kind of crossover and new kind of thing in a new segment.” The Grant Vitara could very well act as the basis of this new product, much like a coupe.
Currently, the Grand Vitara in India is powered by a 2.4-litre petrol engine. the prices of the same fall in the bracket of INR 24 to 26 lakh (ex-showroom).
As to when the coupe version will come into existence is yet to be known. However, before the coupe version the Indian car market is to see the introduction of the next generation Grand Vitara which is likely to launch in India sometime during next-year.
