Skoda, the Czech automobile manufacturer has launched a new Ambition Plus variant for its Octavia saloon in India. The new trim will be offered as a mid-spec variant and hence is slotted between the base Ambition and the top-spec Style Plus trim level. The Ambition Plus will be made available both on the petrol and on the diesel powered Octavia. The former will retail at an ex-showroom price of INR 19.06lakh while the latter will cost INR 19.33lakh (ex-showroom) to own. A while ago, Skoda phased out the Active and Elegance trim levels of the Octavia sedan.
Features included in the Ambition Plus variant will be 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome package, wood décor inside the cabin, dual-tone upholstery, turn indicators on ORVMs, Vi-Xenon headlights with dynamic leveling, automatic headlights, headlamp washers, LED Daytime running lights, LED tail-lamps, cornering function on fog-lamps, height adjustable driver and passenger seats, front centre arm rest, Skoda audio player with touchscreen controls, eight speakers, steering mounted controls, automatic climate control, rear air-con vents, leather upholstery, cruise control, 12V power socket and much more. In-terms of safety feature, the Skoda Octavia Ambition Plus gets dual front airbags, front side curtain airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), ESC (Electronic Stability Program), rear and front parking sensors along with parking camera.
Under the hood the petrol derivative of the Octavia Ambition Plus trim will be powered by a 1.4-litre TSI Motor which churns out 138Bhp along with 250Nm of peak torque. The diesel derivative on the other hand gets a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder TDi unit which is capable enough to pump out 141Bhp along with 320Nm of peak torque. Transmission responsibilities are handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard while there is a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission on offer as well. Dimensionally, the Skoda Octavia measures at 4,659mm in length, 1,814mm in width and 1,476mm in height. It boasts of a wheelbase of 2,688mm with a ground clearance which ranks at 15mm. This move by Skoda to introduce a new variant can be attributed to the fact that Hyundai has recently launched the all new 2016 Elantra in India. The same is currently retailing at an introductory price of INR 12.99lakh with the top of the line variant clocking at INR 19.19lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). At the moment, the prices for the base Ambition trim of the Octavia retails at INR 16.75 (ex-showroom, New Delhi) while the top of the line Style Plus will cost you INR 22.64lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) to own.
