Our well cherished Ambassador brand name has been now been brought for 80 Cr. by Peugeot in a joint venture with Hindustan Motors. Peugeot is currently under works of making its comeback in India and might just use the Ambassador brand name for its any upcoming product. The automaker is expected to set-up its new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.
Peugeot will be coming to India in alliance with the CK Birla group and is expected to make its debut in the country by the year 2018, with operation kick-starting from the year 2021. This alliance will focus on retailing close to 20,000 cars annually for the Indian car market and is to include entries from all sorts of segments which are to include crossovers, sedans and SUVs. It is not confirmed yet as to which model the brand name Ambassador is to go to or whether it is to go to any product in India or not. Peugeot’s tie up with an Indian brand, Hindustan Motors is to help keep the manufacturing costs low and in turn make the prices of its end products competitive.
Coming back to the Ambassador, the same was discontinued from India during the year 2014 with its sales dropping massively in line with the introduction of new products in the Indian car market.
