Nissan has officially announced the plans to bring back Datsun brand for India and other emerging markets. As a part of strategic announcement in India, Nissan confirmed that Datusn brand will be revived after 30 years and will offer two low-cost cars here, in 2014
The Datsun brand is aimed at offering value for money products to the first time buyers in countries like India, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, China etc. The global announcement was made in Indonesia yesterday by the Nissan-Renault group CEO – Carlos Ghosn. Nissan India confirmed that the Datsun car will cost around Rs 4 lakh in India and also provided the first glimpse of the design language to be followed by them.
Nissan also revealed the new-logo for the Datsun brand with a blue oval, a blue band and a metallic border – similar to the Nissan emblem. Earlier, the Datsun brand included a red circle depicting the ‘rising sun’ that symbolises the Japanese national flag. It was also included in the logo back in the day when Nissan Motor Company took over the DAT Motorcar Ltd. and renamed the brand from Datson to Datsun (since the word ‘son’ also means ‘loss’ in Japanese).
