Volkswagen Polo has been one of the most elegant looking hatchback in the country and it was high time that the German manufacturer brought in an update to the vehicle but there seems to be some hope now. A rendering of the next gen Polo has surfaced and its production might be starting from June 2017 in Europe as confirmed by the Volkswagen chairman Dr. Herbert Deiss. The sixth generation model might also enter the Indian market by the end or mid of this year although an official word is awaited.
The next gen VW Polo will be sporting several upmarket changes in the exterior design department, interiors and powerful engines on offer, thus prices might see a hike and we expect the car to be priced from INR 6 lakh to INR 11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Volkswagen Polo is currently offered with 2 petrol (1.2 litre MPI and 1.2 Litre TSI) and 2 diesel engines (1.5 litre TDI and 1.5 litre GT TDI) in India but engines with different configuration and capacity might also make it to the country.
The exterior design is sharp and edgy as compared to the existing models and derives from the new VW Passat, Golf and the Tiguan. The interiors will be even more loaded with luxury and will come with a best in class 9.5 inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The safety features on offer are ABS with EBD, dual airbags, anti-slip regulation, adaptive damper control, ESP, Xenon headlights with cornering ability, pedestrian detection system, adaptive cruise control and city emergency braking system. A lot of these safety features might not make it to the Indian production spec models.
Once launched the vehicle will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and the Ford Figo.
