We previously mentioned that Maruti Suzuki is working on performance version of Swift which would be called as Swift Sport. Previously few images of the next-gen Swift Sport were also leaked by the Japanese car magazine which indicates that the sporty version of Swift will sport lot of design cues from the upcoming 2017 Swift hatch. The upcoming 2017 Suzuki Swift Sport has been spotted while testing in Europe which will be making its official public debut at 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March besides next generation Swift 2017. Going by the spied images, the Swift Sport test mule can be easily distinguished from the regular Swift as it sports a lower ride height, dual exhaust tips as well as roof spoiler. The spied shots of 2017 Suzuki Swift Sport clearly indicates that the sporty hatch will be equipped with gaping mesh grille with aggressively-styled airdams, side skirts, faux diffuser and revised headlamps with LED DRLs in spite of the fact that the prototype was wrapped with camoflauge.
Power to the next gen 2017 Swift Sport will be sourced from Suzuki Vitara’s 1.4-litre Boosterjet 4-cylinder petrol engine which is capable of producing 138.07 hp of power along with peak torque of 220 Nm. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with Suzuki’s ALLGRIP AWD system.
As per market report, Maruti Suzuki India is considering to bring new generation Swift Sport into the Indian market as it will be advantageous for the automaker. With introduction of Swift Sport in the domestic market, the automaker will get an upper hand for improving the Swift brand image and deriving it as an enthusiastic and exciting product in its line-up.
Maruti Suzuki India can however, make some changes to the Swift Sport unit when brought into the Indian market. One of these changes is likely to be inclusion of 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine in spite of 1.4-Litre which will be seen on the upcoming Maruti Baleno RS.
