We informed you earlier that Hyundai, the South Korean automaker is planning to launch the new Hyundai Tucson SUV in the Indian car market this year. Speaking to ET Auto, YK Koo, Hyundai Motor India MD said that the new Tucson will be launched in the country in year end. Hyundai India is focusing more on SUVs to further improve its market share. At the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the company showcased the Carlino sub-4 metre SUV concept. If reports are to be believed, the production version of the Carlino will go on sale in the country in early 2018. It will be pitched against the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and the upcoming Tata Nexon.
Coming back to Tucson, the premium SUV will be slotted between the Hyundai Creta and the Santa Fe. Unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the premium SUV will take on the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Tata Hexa. It is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that offers two states of power- 136PS and 184PS. Transmission duties are likely to be carried out by a six-speed manual and an automatic unit. The new Tucson is 4,475mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,645mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,670mm. It comes with a boot space of 513-litres, which is good enough to carry your weekend bags. Talking about new Hyundai Elantra, the saloon will get cosmetic upgrades to both exterior and interior. The vehicle will first go on sale in Q3, 2016 followed by Tucson towards the end of this year. The 2016 Elantra is likely to get 2 petrol and 1 diesel engine. The petrol options will include 1.6-litre GDi and 2.0-litre MPi units while the diesel version will get a 1.6-litre VGT CRDi unit. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit.
