2017 is going to start with a bang as India’s favorite car maker Maruti Suzuki is going to launch the unique looking Ignis which has already earned a lot of fans owing to its features and the fresh design. On the other hand, the already existing Baleno which is a brisk seller will be getting a performance oriented variant more popularly called the hot hatch segment which will see the launch of the Baleno RS. Both the models will be sold through the Nexa premium dealership of Maruti with the pricing of Baleno RS likely to fall in the range of INR 7 to 9 lakh (ex-showroom) whereas the Ignis is expected to be priced in between 5 lakh to 8 lakh (ex-showroom). Maruti Suzuki Ignis vs Baleno RS: Design
Maruti Ignis exterior design is composed of styling cues from several previous models in Suzuki’s global portfolio but it still looks modish and likable. The front end consists of projector headlamps with LED DRLS which have a squarish profile. The character lines are boldly drawn and the chrome accented bits lend the Ignis a regal touch. The side profile is especially aggressive with flared wheel arches, 10-spoke 15 inch alloy wheels, blacked out A and B pillar along with a crossover-like stance. Ignis is 3700 mm in length, 1595 mm in width and 1660 mm in height with wheelbase of 2435 mm and ground clearance of 180mm.
Baleno RS retains the design of regular variants with minute additions like a sporty body kit, highlighted front grille, low slung front and rear bumpers, with side skirts, 16 inch black alloy wheels with RS performance badges to differentiate this from regular Baleno model. The length will be 3995 mm, width is 1745 mm and height being 1500 mm whereas the wheelbase is 2520 mm and ground clearance at 170 mm.

Ignis is going to spell an overhaul in terms of the cabin as it is a lot different from all the Maruti Suzuki models. The upholstery and dashboard will be laid in dual tone colors to break the monotony and silver accents to uplift the ambience. The cabin can fit 5 people in decent comfort although long journeys will be suited to two people in the second row. It will also come with auto climate control, reverse parking sensors, a multi-function steering, contemporary touchscreen with Smartplay infotainment and USB, Bluetooth connectivity. ABS with EBD, dual airbags and ISOFIX mounts are standard across the range.
Baleno currently has a long list of equipment in its comfortable cabin and will retain the black scheme along with a primarily black color with contrast stitching on the upholstery. The Baleno RS will come with auto climate control, cruise control, system, rear parking assist with camera, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, Bluetooth connectivity, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which works with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Vs Baleno RS: Engine Specifications
Ignis is coming with a 1.2 litre, 4-cylinder K-series engine good for 83 bhp with 115 Nm of torque. The diesel derivative is a 1.3 litre, 4-cylinder engine with power figure of 74 bhp and peak torque of 190 Nm. Both engines will be available with a choice of 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. Petrol offers a mileage of 20.89 kmpl while diesel gives out 26.80 kmpl.
The Baleno RS is to feature only a petrol derivative and it will be a 1.0 litre 3-cylinder turbocharged unit which produces 110 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. The transmission is a 5-speed manual along with likelihood of automatic as well.

The Maruti Ignis is likely to be retailed at a price of INR 5 lakh for the base variant whereas the top of the line variant could be priced at around 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Baleno RS is going to be available at a premium over the regular Baleno with prices expected to hover around INR 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
