Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki is also working on a sub-4 metre compact SUV- Codenamed YBA – to rival against the likes of the Mahindra TUV300 and the Ford EcoSport. Rumoured to be named Vitara Brezza, the sub-4 metre SUV will make its official debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo while the launch will take place in Q1, 2016. This sub-4 metre Maruti YBA SUV will be offered with two engine options- 1.3-litre DDiS diesel and a 1.2-litre petrol.
Coming back to Maruti Suzuki Vitara, the SUV will be pitched against the likes of the Mahindra XUV500, Tata Hexa Crossover. It will also compete against the top-end variants of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the upcoming Honda BR-V. The company has already imported a couple of units of the Vitara SUV into India for testing purpose, and the recent developments suggest that MSI is planning to re-introduce its global Vitara SUV in India.
It will be interesting to see how Maruti will price the Suzuki Vitara SUV, as this vehicle is priced around INR 13 lakh in UK. And, MSI will require a massive localisation to keep its price competitive in the market. Maruti is already selling the S-Cross crossover in the country, which is equipped with a 1.6-litre DDiS diesel engine. We expect that the new Vitara could also get the same engine in India.
