Showcased as a concept at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, it is believed that SsangYong is most likely to put the production model of the XAV SUV in to development soon. According to a report published in AutoExpress, the launch for the same can be expected in the year 2019 in the global market.
Based on the same platform as that of the Tivoli compact SUV, the XAV will borrow its styling cues from the MK2 Korando SUV which was on sale during the nineties. In fact, the report says that the production model of the XAV will be longer than the concept form and will measure around 4,400mm in length. The decision to put the XAV in production was taken after a long standing debate amongst the top management of the Mahindra owned manufacturer. The final model so made will be an off-road focus, go anywhere SUV with styling chunky yet contemporary styling characteristics.
It will borrow bits like chubby bumpers, stout skid-plates, superior ride height and short overhangs from the XAV concept. However, concrete details of the design layout will emerge at a later stage. Same can be said about the interiors of this upcoming SUV.
Despite the details are scarce, we can safely assume that the cabin will be very functional and made out of robust and durable materials. The concept showcased a lot of storage space inside, which means that the SUV can be expected to score high in terms of practicality as well.
The details about the power terrain of this vehicle cannot be confirmed as of yet. In the concept form however, this vehicle was showcased in a hybrid avatar. Along with an IC engine it was equipped with a 2.1KW lithium Ion battery which was paired to 2 electric motors bolted on the rear-axels and hence powering the rear-wheels.
The concept also featured SsangYong’s clever off-road 3S-CUBE system which was designed to automatically adjust the air-suspension to alter the ride height according to the terrain on which the SUV is driven. The same would most likely not come in the production avatar as it will increase the costs of the XAV.
The XAV will make its global debut in 2019. When it or will it be launched in India? Well, we will answer these questions to you once more details are revealed on the same.
