Lexus will tomorrow officially make its debut in the Indian car market. The luxury arm of Toyota is to bring three models, which are to be the LX SUV, RX SUV and the ES sedan. At the initial stage all these models will be imported to India through the CBU route, however, seeing the response for their products, it will soon launch might consider local assembly as well.
Talking about the cars, the RX450h SUV is expected to be launched in an Hybrid avatar in the Indian car market. The same will be powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine which is coupled with an electric motor. The combined power output of this combination is to be 308Bhp, handling the transmission responsibilities is to be a CVT automatic gearbox. When launched in India, it is expected that the EX450h would fall in the price range of INR 40 to 50 lakh.
Another SUV, planned by Lexus for the Indian car market is to be the LX450d. Based on the same chassis as that of the Toyota Land Cruiser and is likely to be made available only in a diesel avatar. Under the hood, there will be a 4.5-litre V8 engine, which churns out 269Bhp along with 650Nm of peak torque. Talking about the prices, it is expected that the RX450d will fall in the range of INR 1.5 Cr.
Now to the final, which is the ES300h sedan; the same is based on the same platform as that of the Toyota Camry and powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine mated to an electric motor. The transmission
responsibilities are to be handled by a CVT automatic gearbox. Prices of the same are expected to fall in the range of INR 50 lakh.
After debuting the Lexus brand, Toyota also plans to introduce its budget brand, the Daihatsu in the Indian car market. Models under this range will compete in the budget segments in India.
