Back at the beginning of the year, there was word that Lamborghini would celebrate its 50th anniversary with a limited edition Aventador that could be christened as the ‘LP720-4’. Well it is now official, almost. Images of the car that claims to be the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 have leaked onto the internet, thanks to the German car magazine, Autobild. The model will make its commercial debut at the Auto Show 2013 in Shanghai, China.
As can be seen in the images, the Aventador’s anniversary edition bears a more aggressive design with the revised aero-kit which includes a bigger apron, new side skirts and a more aggressive rear diffuser. The car is painted in what Lamborghini calls “Giallo Maggio”, which is Italian for ‘May Yellow’, while the aero package in finished in a contrasting matte black. The colour combination is reminiscent of the Lamborghini Murcielago SV. The alloy wheels get a black treatment too and the black and yellow colour combination makes its way into the interiors as well.
Under the hood is a more powerful version of the 6.5-litre V12, which produces 720 PS of power – giving the anniversary edition its ‘LP720-4’ suffix. There is word that the Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario will sprint from naught to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds with a top whack of 350 km/h.
It is said that only 100 examples of this car will be built, however, we’ll get the official word from Lamborghini in a few days from now.
