Jeep which recently unveiled the Compass mid size SUV for the Indian market has revealed two teaser images of its upcoming concepts. The new model teased in the image is very similar to previously leaked Jeep K8 concept although, in the process of releasing the teaser, Jeep has also disclosed the Chinese name of the concept which is ‘Yuntu’.
Jeep Yuntu looks bigger than the K8 concept and has differences in the form of bigger and sharper looking headlamps, redesigned bumper, design of the alloy wheels, different taillights although the shoulder line of both the SUVs is very similar to each other. Yuntu looks much more funkier and futuristic whereas the K8 bears very close resemblance to the Jeep Compass production model.
The Jeep Yuntu is currently meant for the Chinese market and will be powered by a plug-in hybrid system which is evident from the badge on its front fender. The engine doing duties could be a Chrysler Pacifica made 3.6 litre V6 engine teamed with two electric motors which could generate and store more power for a hike in performance.
The Jeep Yuntu will be competing against the likes of Volkswagen Tiguan All Space which is a 7-seater, Honda CR-V 7-seater and several other premium SUVs like the Ford Edge, Toyota Highlander and VW Atlas which are very unlikely to come to the Indian market.
The production version of the vehicle will be entering the Chinese market by the year 2018 whereas it remains to be seen whether the Yuntu enters the Indian territory anytime soon.
