Mini Cooper has always been perceived as a small car and more so if we pay attention just to the name, Mini. But the latest iteration of Mini, the Countryman can be said to have broken that notion with its sheer size which has generously increased in all the departments over the previous model. The new car is a breakthrough in terms of the fresher bolder and muscular design.
MINI Countryman Exteriors
This is the largest model yet with an increase of 206 mm in the length, the width increases by 33 mm and a good 74 mm jump in the wheelbase which leads to an increased leg-room. The front LED headlamps have become squarish in shape with classic MINI grill. The design is muscular from the sides with large roof rails and wheel arches finished in matte black housing black alloy wheels. The rear end of the car is almost similar to the previous model with silver skid plate added to the new model giving it an SUV like stance.
MINI Countryman Interiors
The circular interiors theme looks rich in dual tone colors. The large infotainment screen in the center is circular in shape whereas the instrument cluster also boasts of a comprehensive display of information related to each and every part of the car. It gets supportive leather seats which are electrically adjustable and snugly fit the driver for an enhanced driving experience. The fit and finish of the equipment inside the car is top notch and is made to last as expected. The rear has much more leg room due to increase in wheelbase and get rear AC vents as well. The car gets an high boot capacity of 450 litres which can be further increased to a massive 1309 litres after folding the rear seats.
MINI Countryman Engine
For the first time the car is available with a Plug-in hybrid engine called the Mini E Countryman Cooper S ALL4. This engine combines a 1.5 litre, 3 cylinder turbo charged unit with an 87 Bhp electric motor which produces 221 bhp with 385 nm of torque. The car is expected to dash from 0-100 kmph in just 6.8 seconds. Other option will be a 2.0 litre unit with 150 bhp of power along with 280 nm of peak torque. The engines will come mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
MINI Countryman Competition
The increase in size of the car directly pits it against the baby SUV from Audi, the Q3. In terms of pricing however the Countryman will be a much more expensive proposition for the buyers. The new Countryman will be much more expensive than the previous version which retailed at INR 28 to 33 lakh (ex showroom Delhi).
