Kia Motors is likely to begin its operation in the Indian car market by the year 2019. For that, the Hyundai owned Korean automaker is currently setting up a new manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. Now according to a report published in a news daily, it is believed that this new manufacturing facility will also be used jointly by Hyundai Motors to produce cars which fall under its own portfolio.
This move will help Hyundai to increase its domestic as well as export capacity. The automaker’s currently plant based in Tamil Nadu is running on full capacity. The Kia plant is being made by an investment of over INR 12,000 and will have a production capacity of about 300,000 units. Out of this, about 50 percent will be used by Hyundai while the other half if to be utilized by Kia.

When Kia Motors begins its operations in the Indian car market, it is expected that the first product to be launched could very well be the Picanto compact hatchback. revealed recently, the Picanto is based on the same platform as that of the Hyundai Grand i10 and when it arrives in India could also use the same engine options. Other than the Picanto, Kia could also bring the Soul crossover and the Sportage SUV at the initial stage. Not only this, we could also very well see a sedan coming out of Kia’s plant for India as well.
