Korean automotive giant, Hyundai Motors has been one of the most successful premium car manufacturers in the Indian market. The company ‘s offerings in the premium space include the Hyundai Santa Fe, Sonata, Elantra, new Fluidic Verna, Hyundai Creta, Elite i20 and the Grand i10 to name a few. Hyundai Motors India Ltd is the number two car manufacturer in India with average monthly sales figures of around 36-42 thousand units. Hyundai Elite i20 has been the bestselling product for Hyundai with average monthly sales of more than 10 thousand units. The car has now breached a sales mark of two lakh units since its launch in India in September 2014. This is a joint sales figure comprising the Elite i20 as well as the i20 Active. In the premium segment, the Hyundai i20 competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto Evo, Maruti Swift, Tata Bolt and the Honda Jazz.
The Hyundai Elite i20 is a featured packed car as compared to the competition with a features list that include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, parking assist, automatic headlamps, touch-screen infotainment system, rear view camera, leather-wrapped steering wheel, steering wheel with audio & Bluetooth controls and push button start/stop among others. The Elite i20 is offered in two engine options, 1.2-ltr Kappa petrol engine and a 1.4-ltr CRDi diesel engine. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-ltr Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine that produces 82bhp of maximum power at 6000rpm and 115Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm. The oil burner is powered by a 1.4-ltr CRDi diesel engine that churns out 89bhp of power at 4000rpm and 220Nm of torque between 1500-2750rpm. While the petrol variant is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the diesel variant is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The Hyundai i20 Active is the crossover version of the Elite i20. The car gets the same features and engines as compared to the Elite i20. Dimensionally, the i20 Active is 10mm long, 26mm wide and 50mm tall as compared to the Elite i20. The car also gets diamond cut 16-inch alloy wheels.
