Putting all the previous speculations aside, Hyundai has now officially launched the automatic variant of its current premium hatchback, the Elite i20 in India. We earlier informed you that the Korean automaker will be bringing in the hatchback equipped with an automatic gearbox, since in that particular segment it is the only car which was devoid of the same.
The automatic variant so launched is not provided along with the standard 1.2-litre petrol engine. The automaker has launched a more powerful 1.4-litre Kappa petrol power terrain which is capable enough to pump out 99Bhp and 132Nm of peak torque. The gearbox in question is a 4-speed unit and transfers the power to the front wheels. The automatic variant will only be available in the magna trim with a price that clocks at INR 9.02lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
As far as the exterior and interior design is concerned, no changes have been made. In the communication released by the manufacturer also announces that Hyundai will now be offering additional curtain airbags on the Elite i20 Astra (O) and the i20 Active SX trim levels, making it the first car in the segment to be offered with a total of 6-airbags. However, this additional safety does not come as standard and will only be available of the aforementioned trim levels. As you already know, the Hyundai Elite i20 is based on the same automaker’s fluidic sculpture 2.0- design philosophy. The vehicle’s exterior profile features a sharp yet elegant look making it one of the best looking premium hatchbacks in the country by far.
The Elite i20 petrol automatic will only be available in the Magna trim level. In terms of features, this particular variant will get chrome front grille, 2-tone beige and black interior, door map pockets, rear-parcel tray, leather wrapped steering wheel, sunglass holder, digital clock, 2-din audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, manual air-conditioning, electric power steering, cooled glove box, rear air-con vents, clutch footrest, passenger vanity mirror, power outlet among the many. In terms of safety, the Elite i20 petrol automatic will get dual-airbags, headlamp escort function and key-less entry.
Apart from the new 1.4-litre petrol engine, the Elite i20 also comes with a 1.2-litre petrol unit that churns out 81Bhp along with 114Nm of peak torque. There is also a diesel engine on offer, this one is capable enough to pump out 88Bhp and 219Nm of peak torque. Both these engines are paired to a 5-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The prices of the Elite i20 starts at INR 5.54lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes till INR 8.79lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Elite i20’s arch rivals at the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto Evo and Honda Jazz.
