Honda Car India launched its first ever hatchback crossover in India, the WR-V at a base price of INR 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Based on the Honda Jazz, the WR-V seems to have gotten of a to good start for the Japanese automaker as within two weeks of the its launch, the same has managed to garner over 2,500 bookings. As reported by Autocar Proffesional, majority of these, about 57 percent are for the diesel variant.
With a price tag which falls in the range of INR 7.75 lakh to INR 9.99 lakh, the WR-V not only pitches in the hatchback crossover segment in India but also has emerged as competitor for the existing fleet of compact SUVs in the country.
The Honda WR-V, though based on the Jazz hatchback features its own unique identity as it gets a completely different design language. It comes with an extended wheelbase, additional length and in increased boot space. Talking about the engine specifications, the WR-V comes in both petrol and diesel trims. The former is powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC motor which produces 89Bhp of power along with 110Nm of peak torque. The diesel derivative comes with a 1.5-litre oil burner churning out 99Bhp along with 200Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties are carried out by a 5-speed manual gearbox for the petrol derivative and a 6-speed manual transmission for the diesel derivative.
