Honda City mid-sized sedan has been the best selling model for the Japanese carmaker for several months. However, the recently introduced the Honda Amaze compact sedan has now become the best selling model for the car maker for the month of December 2016. For the month of December 2016, the car maker has retailed 3,322 units of Amaze in the domestic market whereas sales of City stood at 2,989 units. Moreover, the carmaker also retailed 443 units of its entry level hatch – Brio whereas Honda sold 1,601 units of premium hatch – Honda Jazz along with 151 units of MPV Mobilio for the month of November. In terms of SUVs, the car maker retailed 1,601 units and 55 units of BR-V and CR-V respectively. The export numbers of the company stood at 448 units for the month of December 2016.
The car maker saw a dip in domestic sales for the month of December 2016 which stood at 18.64 percent. As compared to the number of units retailed in December 2015, the monthly domestic sales decreased to 10,071 units last month as compared to 12,379 units retailed during December 2015. Moreover, the year-on-year sale numbers during the year 2016 wherein the company has sold 1,56,107 units in the domestic market.
Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “After a severe impact of demonetisation in Nov’16, the Dec’16 sales continued to be challenging. We expect the New Year to gradually bring back normalcy in the market. During 2016, HCIL sold a total of 1,56,107 units in domestic market and we are thankful to our customers to have continued faith in the Honda brand.”
