Force Motors has launched the facelift version of their Extreme Off road vehicle, the Gurkha with a range of exterior design and mechanical upgrades which make it look much more upmarket and practical in comparison to the previous models. The Force Gurkha 2017 is available at prices starting from INR 8.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and is available in a choice of 3-door Xplorer and 5-door Expedition edition.
The tough and handsome looking Gurkha has its moniker inspired from the brilliant and clinical army contingent which operated in the North East and served under the British as well. They have long been known for being one of the fiercest fighters in the world and this is what the Gurkha also aspires to be.
The Gurkha has an aggressive looking front with steel bumpers with fog lamps and headlights topped with steel grille. It has a high set body with raised suspension and scuff plate at the sides whereas the standout feature in the design is the snorkel intake placed ahead of the A-pillar on the driver’s side. The rear end gets a windshield, bumper mounted taillights and door mounted spare wheel. It will be available in an option of soft and hard top.
On the inside, it gets a user friendly cabin with 4-spoke steering wheel and cubby holes with new design gear knob while the manual HVAC has been brought in for the first time. The Gurkha has an extremely tough frame and sits on a new C-in-C Chassis frame welded through a robotic technique which can also help in bending and torsion which the car has to suffer in the toughest of off-roading conditions.
The engine plonked into the Gurkha is a Mercedes OM 616 based 2.6 litre diesel unit with turbocharger and intercooler which is BS IV compliant as well. It delivers a power output of 85 bhp @ 3200 rpm and 230 Nm of peak torque all the while mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
