At the on-going Finali Mondiali event in Daytona, Ferrari has unveiled the 488 GTB Challenge racecar. The same has been unveiled to participate in the 25th installment of Ferrari Challenger series, making it the first turbocharged speed machine ever to do so. Based on the underpinnings of the road legal Ferrari 488 GTB, the Challenge edition is powered by the same turbocharged V8 and churns out 660Bhp. Thanks to its multiple design improvements relating to its aerodynamic capabilities, the 488 GTB Challenge posted a lap time of 1.15.5 seconds, which is a record 1 seconds shorts of the 458 Challenge edition.
In comparison to the road going 488 GTB, the Challenge edition uses different engine mapping which has been optimized for race performance and also offers shorter gear ratios. The same also comes equipped with Ferrari’s Slip Slip Control, traction control and E-Diff3 which enables the car to spring out of corner with maximum traction.
Apart from all the technical wizardry, the Ferrari 488 GTB also comes with various aerodynamic capabilities. These addition made keep the design striking and in line with Ferrari’s unique style along with offering the best slip-stream. Some modifications and which has been done include wider air-dam, highly molded front lip, bumper integrated flaps which are to direct the airflow to the rear. Other things include a lateral air-intake for the engine, side skirts to provide the necessary down force along with a massive rear spoiler.
