After Nissan announced its plans to revive the Datsun brand for the emerging markets, there has been quite a buzz surrounding its development. The next major benchmark in this revival will be July 15, 2013 – as company sources hint.
Nissan top boss, Mr Carlos Goshn is expected to visit India in a few days from now to launch the brand officially in the country. Our sources tell us that Datsun's first small car for India will be shown in a concept form on July 15. Codenamed as the K2, the small car is expected to make its commercial debut at the 2014 Auto Expo next year.
There is word that this small car will be propelled by a petrol engine and Nissan doesn’t plan to include a diesel in the line-up anytime soon. Don’t be surprised though, as its target rivals – the Alto, Eon, i10, Wagon R and Brio – do not come in a diesel option either. Based on the V-platform, the small car is expected to share a lot of oily bits with the Micra and will be positioned below its new low-cost variant that will be launched in a few days from now. Stay tuned to OnCars for more updates on the arrival of the popular Japanese car brand, Datsun.
