Tata Motors has said that it has started receiving bookings of the diesel variant of the Jaguar XE in India. Until now only the petrol was on sale from February, 2016 in the market which is a 2.0-litre unit. The bookings of the XE diesel have started at a payment of INR 5 lakh as token money.
“In the past one year, Jaguar XE has gained immense popularity and success in the Indian market and we are now pleased to offer the choice of diesel to our customers,” JLR India managing director Rohit Suri said in a statement.
The new 2.0-litre diesel engine is capable of developing 177 bhp of power and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The XE petrol is available in three trims which include Pure, Prestige and Portfolio which are priced from INR 41.69 lakh to INR 48.9 lakh( both ex-showroom Delhi). It will be available across all the 24 JLR dealerships in India.
The futuristic and young styling of the XE has gained a lot of followers in the one year of its launch and the company wants to capitalise on the rising popularity by offering a choice of derivatives in the car. On its launch the XE diesel will be competing against the diesel variants of Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-series, Audi A4 and also the Volvo S60 diesel variant.
