Suzuki, one of the largest automobile manufacturers from Japan has today unveiled the 2017 Swift hatchback in its home market. The unveiling has been done for the Japanese spec model of the vehicle and the global debut of the same will happen at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
The vehicle so unveiled bears a certain resemblance to the currently on sale Suzuki Swift in its basic design layout, however apart from that, the 2017 model is a completely new vehicle from the ground up. Apart from a few minor tweaks, this is exactly what the India spec model will look like when Maruti launches it during the festive season of 2017.
The 2017 Suzuki Swift gets a completely new from facia which now has been adorned by new, sweptback headlamps which are sharp in their design. The grille is now hexagonal in shape and embeds itself into a heavily molded bumper which looks quite sporty. The side profile is traditionally Swift like and continue to come with its sloping roof design. The rear of the car has been tweaked as well and now is a lot more compact and contemporary in nature. Coming to the insides of the car, the dashboard layout has been revamped as it continues to get an uncluttered yet practical set-up. There is an all new chunky steering wheel along with a touchscreen multi-media system, automatic climate controls and steering mounted controls among the others. Other features include LED headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, Rear wiper and washer, Hologen foglamps, ORVM-mounted turn indicators, key-less entry, rear-fog-lamps, multi-functional steering wheel with flat bottom steering wheel design, touchscreen infotainment system, voice command, cruise control, automatic climate control, engine start stop button, heated front seats among the others. The 2017 Suzuki Swift is high on safety features as well. It gets 7-airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera with sensors, ESP and Hill hold control.
The engine line-up for the 2017 Suzuki Swift (Japanese Spec) model consists of two different engines. The first one is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine which is good for 100Bhp along with 150Nm of peak torque while the other one is a 1.2-litre DOHC unit producing 89Bhp along with 118Nm of peak torque. The 1.2-litre motor is also available with Suzuki’s mild-hybrid technology. Transmission responsibilities are to be handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while there will be a CVT and a 6-speed automatic unit on offer as well.
When the 2017 Swift arrives in India, the same will feature a completely different set of engine line-up. These will include the existing 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and the 1.3-litre DDiS oil-burner. The transmission responsibilities of the India spec model are likely to be handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox while there will also be an AMT unit available as well.
The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift, when gets launched in India will be priced around INR 4.5 lakh to 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
