Come 2017 and we are going to witness quite a bit of an activity in the c-segment sedan in India. Currently dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the aforementioned segment is to soon see the introduction of the 2017 Hyundai Verna and the next-gen Honda City. Both these cars have been at the reigning end of the spectrum but were somewhat overshadowed by the Ciaz, soon after its launch. Now however as the new editions of both these cars gets launched, the competition is going to get even more fierce; more so amongst the two. So here we take a look at a detailed specification based comparison between the 2017 Hyundai Verna and the next-gen Honda City.

The Honda City 2017 will be inspired from the Honda Greiz sedan and will come with sportier design philosophy. Upfront, the 2017 Honda City will come with sweptback projector headlamps, signature Honda grille with chrome garnish and high gloss black finish while the car is expected to get sculpted front bumper. On the sides, the car is expected to be more or less similar to the outgoing model while the rear section will be redesigned with new LED taillights, redesigned rear bumper and a boot-lid integrated spoiler.
The Hyundai Verna 2017 has been launched in China and comes with the carmaker’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy. The front fascia of the car sports the hexagonal chrome grille, angular projector headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, horizontal fog lamp assembly and a lower placed wide air dam. The side profile gets a coupe like design philosophy along with large 17-inch alloy wheels while the rear section gets new LED taillights, new bumper design and boot-lid integrated spoiler.

Feature-wise, the new Hyundai Verna is likely to be equipped with a 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, start stop button, 7-inch touch screen infotainment system, automatic climate control, sunroof, a large touch-screen AVN system, cruise control, parking sensors and much more. In terms of safety, the mid-size sedan will sport ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Hill Hold Control.
On the other, Honda City sedan is likely to come with Rear Air conditioning Vent, Rear Parking Camera, Cruise Control, sunroof, Touch Screen infotainment system, integrated audio system. It will also sport ABS with EBD, dual airbags, Rear Parking Camera, One Push Engine Start/Stop button and much more.

The upcoming Honda City 2017 will be available with the same petrol and diesel engine options that are available on the current gen model. The petrol variant will be powered by a 1.5-litre iVTEC four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 118 BHP of maximum power along with 145 Nm of peak torque. The oil burner is powered by a 1.5-litre iDTEC four-cylinder diesel engine that is capable of producing 99 BHP of maximum power while developing 200 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox while a 6-speed automatic transmission will also offered as an option.
In India, the Hyundai Verna 2017 will come with the same engine options as that of the current generation model. The lower powered petrol variant is powered by a 1.4-litre VTVT unit that produces 106 BHP of power and 135 Nm of peak torque while the higher powered variant comes with a 1.6-litre VTVT engine 121 BHP of power and 158 Nm of peak torque. The oil burner is powered by a 1.6-litre CRDi diesel motor producing 126 BHP of power and 260 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual on the petrol variant and a 6-speed manual on the diesel variant while both the engine come mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The next generation Honda City 2017 is expected to be priced in India in the range of INR 8.5 lakh for the base petrol manual variant while the top end diesel automatic variant is expected to be priced at INR 13.5 lakh (expected ex-showroom Delhi).

While the next generation Honda City 2017 is currently under development and is expected to be launched in India by end 2017 or early 2018, the Hyundai Verna 2017 has already been launched in China and is expected to be launched in India by mid 2017.
