Hyundai Motor Company, the Korean car manufacturer, today launched the much awaited next generation 2016 Hyundai Elantra in the Indian car market. The car has been priced at INR 12.99 lakh for the base petrol variant whereas the top end diesel variant is priced at INR 19.19 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom Delhi). The 2016 Elantra comes with improved exterior design while also sporting a plush new cabin and interiors. The new 2016 Hyundai Elantra competes against the Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze and Toyota Corolla Altis. While the petrol variant delivers a mileage of 14.59 kmpl and 14.62kmpl respectively for the manual and the automatic transmission options, the diesel variant of the car delivers a mileage of 22.54kmpl and 18.23kmpl respectively for the manual and the automatic transmission options.
The next gen Hyundai Elantra is based on the company's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy and features a sharper design as compared to the outgoing model. Gone are the curves and the car now looks even more sleek. The front now sports wide chrome garnished hexagonal grille, flanked by projector headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The car gets boomerang shaped fog lamp enclosures. The 2016 Elantra is available in a total of five trims that include S, SX, SX AT, SX (O) and SX (O) AT. On the interiors front, Hyundai has given the car a completely redesigned cabin with dual tone interiors. As compared to the outgoing model, the dashboard looses out on all the curves and features an edgy yet premium layout. The cabin is plush with better quality leather upholstered seats. The car now gets an all new 3-spoke steering wheel, an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system with support for Apple Car Play and electrically adjustable memory seats. Safety features include traction control system and tire pressure monitoring system apart from the standard dual airbags and ABS with EBD. The car also gets multiple driving modes; Eco and Sport.
The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is available in two engine options that include a 2.0-litre MPI petrol engine and a 1.6-litre diesel engine. The 2.0-litre MPI petrol engine is capable of producing 148bhp of maximum power and 190Nm of peak torque. The oil burner is powered by a 1.6-litre CRDI diesel engine producing 126bhp along with 265Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission.
